Right from a tender age, I had always been a multi-talented kid. Before I learned how to manage these gifts, there were times I got pissed and overwhelmed with the responsibilities that always emerged with these endowments. Sometimes I would be the one to sing in the juvenile choir and still be part of the drama group, then later join my friends in recitals. There was a time when I ran away from all the roles. The funny part is that I don’t know how to hide my talents. Even if I want to, something will lead to another, and I will have to expose my abilities.
I remember a time in a juvenile class when I was already in the choir, but as kids, we all went to the drama section after rehearsals to watch what the drama team was up to. There was a boy assigned to play a role, but he wasn’t playing it as I thought he should. I got impatient and acted out what he was instructed to do. Although the display was just for my friends, I never knew the drama coordinator in charge was watching me, and that was how I joined the drama group!
It wasn’t an easy task for me to embrace my diverse talents. I think I have heard people complain about not having talents, but mine is a bit more challenging because I keep making discoveries as I grow up. If you don’t have a talent, you can decide to learn, be good at something over time, and be known for it, especially if you are a fast learner. But for me, there are several options, and the urge to explore all of them promotes distraction, making it hard to focus on a talent! Then it gives the idea of several identities. You are known for many things. These were my major challenges before I learned to embrace my diverse gifts, which I later discovered were unique qualities sought after by many.
As a content writer and line editor, I have written several copies, co-authored with other writers on their book projects, written content for websites, and edited several materials for graduate and postgraduate research projects. I have also been in the media for years, assuming roles as a News Anchor, Studio Manager, Voice Over Artist, Programmes Presenter, News Editor and Communications Personnel. To date, I still function in almost all the listed roles. Although I learn and get better on a daily basis, I can thankfully and confidently say that I have completed countless projects over the years. Aside from working with media outfits, I have been privileged to serve in the agricultural, healthcare, and educational sectors. Although I didn’t spend more than a total of 6 to 7 years in these sectors, I have spent more years in the media because my love for the media is everlasting and second to none!
