Many years ago, when I started to take my first steps on the bass, I was already a fan of the American band Dream Theater, a Progressive Metal band that has incredible musicians and that composes each of their songs with a high technical level. I remember watching the band's bass player in the DVDs and I didn't understand absolutely nothing of what he was doing, I could only feel a kind of internal frustration and I told myself “I will never be able to play a song of that band”, that's why, being a complete novice, I didn't even make the attempt, and in fact no apprentice bass player could and that's completely normal.
The truth is that the years went by and I never went to music school, I learned to play the bass at home thanks to my sister's advice and little by little I was improving in basic aspects. I lasted 6 years without playing the bass and that set me back a lot, so I had to start remembering again how it felt to play and to strengthen the muscles and tendons involved.
So, for my participation in week 32, I dared to play one of the band's greatest hits, “As I am” is a heavy song with some pretty catchy riffs, it's one of those songs that inevitably make you move your head from one side to the other. It is perhaps not one of the band's most complex songs, but it does require concentration as it varies quite a bit in terms of chords and there is not much time to think. I had to practice this song several times to get an acceptable bass line, I think it could have been better, but I liked the result.
To record this song I used the Cubase5 application, I also used the Moises application to remove the original bass line, so you will only hear the line I recorded. I hope my participation this week will be to everyone's liking, best regards!

Lyrics
Don′t tell me what's in
Tell me how to write
Don′t tell me how to win
This fight isn't your life
It isn't your right to take
The only thing that′s mine
Proven over time
It′s over your head
Don't try to read between
The lines are clearly defined
Never lose sight of
Something you believe in
Takin′ in the view from the outside
Feeling like the underdog
Watching through the window, I'm on the outside
Living like the underdog
I′ve been trying to justify you
In the end I will just defy you
To those who understand
I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand
Take me as I am
Not under your command
I know where I stand
I won't change to fit your plan
Take me as I am
As I am
Still running up hill
Swimming against the current
I wish I weren′t so fucked
Feels like I'm stuck
Lost in a sea of mediocrity
Slow down, you're thinking too much
Where is your soul?
You cannot touch the way I play
Or tell me what to say
You′re in the way
Of all that I believe in
Takin′ in the view from the outside
Feeling like the underdog
Watching through the window, I'm on the outside
Living like the underdog
I′ve been wasting my breath on you
Open minds will descend upon you
To those who understand
I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand
Take me as I am
Not under your command
I know where I stand
I won't change to fit your plan
Take me as I am
To those who understand
I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand
Take me as I am
Not under your command
I know where I stand
I won′t change to fit your plan
Take me as I am
