Dead Cells is a game that combines two genres in the same space, namely Roguelike and Metroidvania. You will be battling tough enemies ready to finish you off so fast is just one of the few problems you'll have to face, apart from a few mechanics that are easily ready to make your frustration run high. And combined with powerful pixelated visuals with smooth motion animations that deserve thumbs up, Dead Cells shows its sharpness. One thing is for sure, it takes patience and commitment to be able to get through every challenge that is thrown at you, whether it is rational or it feels so unfair.
Regardless of the metroidvania concept that he offers, the story doesn't seem like the main strength for Dead Cells. Instead of offering a story like most single-player games that slide through cut-scenes or intensive dialogue, Dead Cells only offers snippets of information from various locations and objects that you find, with relatively minimal detail. With preoccupation that is indeed dominated by the gameplay and the level of difficulty, you will not object to this approach.
Dead Cells Story
Dead Cells also has a pretty interesting narrative. you will play a character without a head. He had to run and escape the dungeon from the place where he was imprisoned. Later he will find a pile of corpses whose body and appearance are similar to himself, as well as some people who are imprisoned with stories of the dark past.
You will continue to die and live again in this game until you finally find a way out. There will be a big door that will open later and there you will fight the last king and free your curse to continue to die and live in a dark prison.
Dead Cells Gameplay
The game always starts the same, you take a sword as your primary weapon then choose a shield or range weapon as a secondary weapon and then start the game against zombies, archers, and bomb throwers in the first level. It's just that each layout of the level that you will pass is not always the same. This is where the roguelite genre is implemented in this game. Like other roguelite games like Spelunky and Nuclear Throne, the game uses procedural generation for level design.

So you will never find the same map layout even though maybe the background and overall design of these levels have their own repetition patterns such as the first level is always in a prison, the second level is in the sewer, the third level is in the tower, and so on. On the one hand, random designs like this make the game more interesting to play back, but on the other hand you have a great chance of not being lucky and getting trash loot which makes the game more difficult than it should be.

And Dead Cells There are hundreds of weapons divided into two types that can be played. You will have four weapon slots, two for the main weapon and two for the additional weapon. There are also talents or innate abilities that you can choose and determine the style of play you will use. Brutality in red gives great damage, Tactics in purple will prioritize long-range play styles, and Survival with its characteristic green color will give you more defense.
And for the sound aspect of Dead Cells is equally interesting. The soundtrack of composer Valmont de Ragondas is a collection of music that can amaze the listeners' ears. The strains of the guitar and the sound of the drums in each game soundtrack succeed in building the great atmosphere for each level and the action that is presented on the player's screen. For the sound aspect in other games, you could say it's not that bad, but one drawback that exists in this aspect is the sound that is issued on the electric whip in the game. Maybe not everyone feels the same as me, but this is my playing experience so far.
I give this game a 9/10 score, this game is totally addicting to me. And this game is suitable to be played by Metroid and Castlevania veterans. For platformer enthusiasts, this game will make you addicted because the duration of the adventure will take hundreds of hours to complete because the difficulty level can be frustrating.
