In the latest Nintendo Direct, it was announced that you could play Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games on Nintendo Switch, it was a cool announce to be honest but sadly this is Nintendo we are talking about so not everything is like ¨good¨, I mean, I have mixed feelings about this, let me elaborate. It´s well known Gameboy and GBA already existed, Nintendo didn´t just release them until now, why? I don´t know, but I felt like they released them because they had no choice and kind of were forced to it like ¨okay we´ve got it have it your way take you gameboy and let us be in peace¨ I don´t know, it felt like that to me but maybe that´s just me.
The gameboy catalog is so big and I love that, but do you know what I don´t love? The small catalog of Gameboy games included through the Nintendo Switch Online, it´s a lame joke the small quantity of games we can play when we take into account that there is a mountain of videogames from the Gameboy era, I can understand that they do this with the Nintendo 64 because it´s not like there are a lot of games on said system, but there is no excuse for the Gameboy, I´m aware they´ll release more games in the future but let´s be honest I doubt there will be a lot of games, it´ll be probably a decent catalog which sucks because you are actually paying for that and you don´t expect something ¨decent¨, you expect something good, I mean, let´s be honest, it´s been some time since they don´t update the Nes and Super Nintendo, it´ll be the same with the Gameboy.
Okay, I was testing some games that they let you play through the Nintendo Switch Onlne and I´m going to talk only about games that left me a big impression. I´ve got to play Zelda Link´s Awakening, have you ever got a game that everyone loves and you just don´t get a liking to it? This is my case with Zelda Link´s Awakening, I just don´t like the remake from the Nintendo Switch and that is actually depressing because I´m such a Zelda fanboy so I´m willing to give a chance to the original version, I´m not playing it that much for now I´ve been enjoying the experience, but we´ll see, the game runs well and I didn´t get a singlue issue playing the game, I mean, it´s a Gameboy game.
The next game I played was Metroid II because I loved Metroid Prime Remastered and well, why not? Let´s give Metroid II a chance and I´m not sure that was actually a good idea, I mean, the game has aged terrible, like, it looks horrible to be honest (this is my opinion) and yeah of course it´d look horrible it´s been ages since this thing was released, and you know, not gonna lie, I thought it was fun but I´m not sure if I would keep playing this, maybe I´ll do I won´t promise anything, so a Metroid just appeared from nowhere and it just killed me, and I don´t even know how to save and I had to restart from the begining, I know I can use the rewind option but XD so this is what Metroid is all about huh.
Alone in the Dark is pretty underrated, Resident Evil wouldn´t even exist if it was because of Alone in the Dark in the first place but okay, I didn´t know there was a game for the Gameboy so I was curious and I played it and I don´t know, I´m a boomer but not thaat boomer, I love retro games but I think this is too much for me. When you explore the game looks like in the first screenshot but when you have to shoot your enemies there is a change on the gameplay and it looks like in the second screenshot, besides, it´s annoying to play because everytime characters speak the action is interrumpted until they stop speaking.
Next thing I did after playing some Gameboy games was to see how was everything with the Gameboy Advance and I´ve gotta admit that I feel a lot of nostalgia because I actually had one, I love the Gameboy Advance catalog is amazing and so big, but same thing happens here, the catalog through the Nintendo Switch Online is so small and yeah, the incoming games oh my god Golden Sun, Metroid Fusion, yes, they are awesome games but I doubt it will be that big, which is a shame, I really love the Gameboy Advance catalog.
I played Mario Kart and obviously it feels like no big ideal after Mario Kart 8 but it´s fun, it´s like I remembered it, a fun anecdote it´s that I had this game on my old Gameboy Advance but I don´t know the cartridge couldn´t save anything, so everytime I turned off the console I lost everything, of course this doesn´t happen here lol so it´s good I think, the nostalgia kind of blinds me.
I wanted to test Zelda Minish Cap and I had a rush of nostalgia just by testing it, really. It runs good, I had no issues and I don´t know, this game is beautiful, like I´m telling you, I din´t play that much I just wanted to see if it worked just fine, and oh man, I just can´t wait to actually play this after I complete the mountain of games I have to beat.
I know what you are thinking, you are thinking I´m a hypocrite because I was being harsh when talking about the Gameboy and when it´s time to talk about the Gameboy Advance I say nothing but good things and you know what, yeah, I am lol, I mean, I´m sorry but I just loved so much my Gameboy Advance and it´s hard for me to actually say bad things about this, it´s really hard for me to be objective but it´s the same thing with the Gameboy, like, I think there should be more catalog and well, I doubt they will update it that much, both systems run good but there is not much to say now, well, I had a good experience overall but I think it could be better.
All of the screenshots were taken by me
