There is currently a lot of tension in the world due to the coronavirus and also due to discussions between leaders of world powers, but despite all this, it could be said that we are in time of peace. Right now in the world there is probably not a person who has experienced the pain or problems that a world war brings, all this has been reflected only in books, movies and testimonies so Ubisoft decides to step forward and capture this sad reality in a video game. Valiant Hearts is a videogame developed and published by Ubisoft at 2014 in the previous and current generation of consoles and PC, it even has a version for Android and IOS smartphones.
War...War Never Changes
Valiant Hearts tells us about the havoc caused by the First World War, but not from the economic or political sphere, but the damage and wounds that it caused in the hearts of many people and families. From the beginning we will see how France began to deport the Germans because they would have entered war with Germany and that is where our protagonist Karl is recruited into the German army while his father-in-law Emile is recruited into the French army, with all this France and Germany they were making entire families in one way or another have to be at odds against their will. The story in general terms is centered on Karl, Emil, Freddie and Anna, the lives that are connected in the same goal, to get out of this war alive and stop the injustices that this has brought to everyone's lives.
Valiant Hearts is a game with graphic novel touches that despite being in 2D, this game is quite colorful, with a fairly high level of detail, this is because the game uses the same graphics engine as Rayman Legends and Child Of light, but a peculiarity of this game is that its graphic style goes further than that since it´s represented as if we were looking at comic book drawings.
We can play with different characters in limited environments, we will push things, we can also attack and perform many actions, but basically this game is focused on solving puzzles to continue advancing in the story, so it is not a game that we can end quickly, this is something good about the game since exploring each area, talking to the characters and looking for even the smallest detail will make everything more interesting. We can handle Freddie, Emile and Anna, thus having a total of 3 playable characters each with different abilities, another point that will make that on certain occasions we have to change characters to perform any necessary action. As if that were not enough, there are musical parts where, for example, to the rhythm of the music, we will have to avoid missiles.
In Summary...
We are facing a quite emotional game that openly shows us the cruel reality that hides after a war, which uses a quite remarkable graphic section and a good soundtrack to emphasize and make us feel in the skin of our protagonists, we can play with more than two characters, this will make us see things in another perspective and it´s always fresh to the gameplay to have more characters to play with, puzzles are not that hard to deal with because the game is so centered in telling you a good story but that´s not a bad thing. This is the kind of game that always let me thinking about enjoying things on life no matter how small they are, because people out there might having a bad time, worse than mine.
