This write-up is a tribute to all the programmers who code our amazing games.
Introduction
If you guys use your phone for gaming there is a good chance that you might have heard about "Flappy Bird", this one was quite hard to miss as this game was so popular that it earned its creator almost 50,000$ per day. I remember this game to be super addictive yet quite simple to play, this game really gave me some good memories for sure.
About The Game
Logic : The game logic was quite simple, help the bird dodge the incoming pipes and keep the bird flapping. The game rewards you one point when you pass through a pipe.
Controls : This game had the simplest control in my opinion, you only needed one finger to play this amazing game. A simple tap would help the bird gain altitude and when you stop tapping the bird falls down.
Sounds : The sounds in this game is something that makes it addictive if you ask me. The repetitive sound of each tap as you progress gets so intense that your brain starts talking to you saying things like "don't look at the score".
Gameplay : As I've mentioned earlier this game was addictive. I can still remember me sitting with my friends passing the phone around trying to beat each others score.
What Happened?
The was brought to life by Dong Nguyen, a developer from the vietnam. He also loved playing games like many of us here. Flappy bird earned him about 50,000$ while the game was at the top of the leaderboard in both the playstore and Appstore. All of these are good news and you guys might be wondering what the bad news is right?
Frustration
I know that I have used the word addictive a couple of times now that is because this game gets you hooked up for hours and when people started to realize that they where wasting a lot time in this games they started attacking Nguyen on social media platforms such as twitter. Initially those were just hate post some even said things like he had destroyed their life by making this game.
Nguyen only wanted to make a game that was simple which we could use to reduce our daily stress. This was not the case now with all these rage and hatred. So he decided to take the game down for the betterment of the world even when he was making such a huge amount of revenue.
Self Hate
You see Nguyen was not that guy wanted fame, attention, or money he was simply a indie game developer. From what I've found out he hated attention, for his thousands of emails, tweets, investor phone calls, media interview request were all torture and he simply wanted peace. For this same reason he started hating his game and himself.
So he finally decided to take the game down and hardcore fans of the game now started giving out death threats to him. Anyway he took the game down almost after a year it was launched.
Conclusion
Developing a game is not a simple task and the game developers are often not credited enough in my opinion. Respect them and understand that they are human beings too.
Thanks for reading 😊. And I'm new to hive so forgive me for any mistake ☮️.
