Breaking Concentration
Competitive players want the 'best items' or setup so they can win every match and every duel and its understandable, I like to win too! But when every player is running the same gear and weapon sets, the fights become predictable and uninteresting. It bores the hell out of me!
Running a build read from a guide shows a lack of imagination. When a player looks up how to run a build that is the 'Meta' they have chosen to press an 'I Win' button. I hate fighting players that have exact copies of the same loadout. Sure, they are dealing massive damage but in their drunken haze to achieve the highest damage number, they forget or don't think about about other elements in the game.
Many players are so used to the routine of a fight that they go through the motions and expect the other guy to do the same. But I have found that when I do something that isn't 'normal' by their standards those players have a minor freakout. In their happy land of 1's and 0's I have thrown a 2 into their system!
In New World
Mobility is everything and with light armor equipped a player can roll in, deal damage, and roll out before anyone can get a vital hit on them. What is my solution to these rolling pests?
I slow them down with the blunderbusses net ability. This along with the 'Entangling net' trait on my weapon also diminishes their stamina regen.
Now the players roll in but they can't roll out. It brings me so much joy to see their character suddenly scramble to escape as my teammates squash them.
It's difficult for me to admit but me breaking an enemy players concentration is usually how I win a lot of my '1v1' match ups, being an oddity that doesn't fit the 'norm' that they expect from other players.
There are players that are going to be better than me because they have either invested the time learning their role, followed a guide to reach maximum potential, or are just naturally great at the game.
It's going to be tough for me to try and follow their lead when they are masters at the game, many others have tried and some have succeeded! But if I can break their concentration for just a few seconds then I gain a huge advantage and my chances of eking out a victory greatly increases.
In many circumstances I can understand 'Well this ability/item is vastly better than this other option!' and agree with the choice but other times when I see something that can cause as much mayhem as possible I will usually go for that. 'Nobody picks that because it doesn't do enough damage!' but it could have a secondary effect that nobody is equipped to deal with for just that reason, if nobody picks it then nobody expects it!
This is generally my philosophy on games with 'Player vs Player' where everybody follows the same archtype. There are plenty of options in games that are given to players and for the majority to follow only one because it has 'The highest damage' is silly.
I hope you agree but if you have another opinion I would love to hear it in the comments!
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
