My Gamer take on the classic 'Exit' sign. Mishmash of settings here, Wizard with a gun fleeing with an artifact while being fired upon by different projectiles. Made by me in Paint
Never under estimate the power of running away. Players often continue advancing no matter what they see in front of them because its a game, they'll just respawn no problem and continue onward. Me? I see what's in front of me and decide I want no part of that and go another way.
'You coward!' some might say but just because I am going a different way doesn't mean I am only focused on staying alive... I mean that's a part of it but in an objective based game being part of the 'meatgrinder' is not my goal, my goal is the objective and being sent back to the respawn point is not accomplishing that.
I think being alive for as long as possible actually helps the team out more than others think! Some players look at scoreboards and see one guy who hasn't died at all and think 'I want to change that', other players see the odd one out going to the side of the main force and think 'Easy target', and the chase begins!
The Chase
Being chased is a thrill and it requires every trick in the book to evade pursuers, smoke bombs, changing directions, running between other fighters, standing still against terrain and letting them pass by, I've done them all with moderate to extreme success depending on the game.
In matches where the goal IS to kill each other senselessly, I still play the elusive game. The way I see it, as long as the enemy is chasing me then they aren't scoring a kill!
If I decide to try and fight them then The Chase gives me the opportunity to choose where I want to engage. I pick a spot that works well with my loadout and since I have a few seconds before they get in range I have time to set up!
The Goal
The purpose of my evasion is constantly changing depending on the game but it is always to help the team in ways they don't expect: More players chasing me, the less enemy players my team has to worry about, if I successfully manage to get past the enemy I can cause mayhem behind enemy lines and create confusion amongst the enemy. Anything to rattle the cage.
Also it's fun!
Why?
While growing up I would pick the 'squishy' characters and would be the focus of most enemies. Creating distance from their killer intent was a good tactic and I never grew out of it, in fact I would say it evolved to help displace both myself and the enemy!
Ending
So the next time the thought 'Oh, let me run into that cluster with my team' pops up. Perhaps try a different route, opportunities may arise that could be both fun and disruptive for the whole match!
I wanted to add more pictures but my view point was always of trees and the landscape because its difficult getting a look at pursuing players while they chase you.
I hope you enjoyed the post!
