I haven’t played the Prospectors game for well over a year but since I’m diving into the new Splinterlands Land Functionality (which has a few similarities to this older game) I thought I might check in and see how it’s been holding up. I did play Prospectors on a daily basis for several years so I’m very familiar with how it works…
The first thing I did was check out the DappRadar to see how the game is ranking. Not particularly surprising to see it’s dropped to #33 on the Games Ladder. It is played across 2 Blockchains - EOS and WAX. The original world was on EOS and its UAW (Unique Active Wallets) is currently around 600 daily, while the other 2 worlds on WAX have more like 4,200 UAW daily so it looks like that old EOS world is pretty dead. I logged into the 2nd world on WAX and it looked pretty dead too so it's safe to say that most of the current activity is on the newest Grand Land.
Functionality wise nothing has really changed since I left and the PGL Token Price is still looking very depressed. I had stopped playing the game because I felt it was stagnating and I got frustrated with the dependency of linking my account to a Google Email. When I moved my main email off Gmail a while ago I couldn’t get any support to get back into the game and that was the last straw. This dependency hasn’t changed and there doesn't appear to have been a single update or development in well over a year. I don’t think it helps that the Development Team is based in Ukraine as they probably have some bigger problems to deal with at the moment. It's likely a fair achievement for the game to still even be running...
I also checked out the Atomic Hub on WAX which is the primary Marketplace for NFTs within the game and empty plots on the Grand Land are selling for about $16 USD with unopened land packs going for about $44 USD. There is still a huge amount of unopened land available on the Grand Land world. They probably launched that world just in time to catch the worst of the latest Crypto Bear Market but if things turn around for Ukraine and the Crypto Market and the Developers can push out some new features for this game it could be a bit of a sleeper. That said, I won’t be re-investing my time or moneys here any time soon. Revisiting this old game is a timely reminder that sometimes old games can just wither on the vine if they are left to stagnate.
