the fresh return of the chaotic classic: Warioware: Get It Together!
So after having for weeks my Switch lying on the lowest shelf of my bookshelf I finally decided to catch up again with the titles that our great uncle Nintendo releases (I also started the adventure on the new Zelda so expect a review soon) but I was surprised how they have revived one of the series that have given me more fun, Warioware is a return that I'm not sure if I have expected but I'm very satisfied with what it achieves, a festival of microgames that combine the classic dynamism with the surprise and weirdness of Wario's world, it may not have hooked me as much as its DS or Wii version but it has reminded me how much Nintendo needs its internal weirdness to bring out experiences that interest me, at least Get It together does exactly that and keeps all the fun in place with its varied games.
But let's see a bit of history, for those who do not understand what the Wario series is about, it is a Spin-Off that Nintendo makes once every millennium where Mario's doppelganger antagonist is present along with several new characters and where we will have to go through different levels each with a series of mini-games that vary greatly from each other and that we must complete them almost by reflex as we will have only a few seconds to read what we have to do and do it, making the experiences in Warioware are fleeting yes, but that leaves us a lot of fun in between as well as many ideas of gameplay and how you can take advantage of the controls (in DS the screen was a key factor and Wii Remote became the center of attention of the game).
Its more than 200 new microgames that take full advantage of the Switch controls as well as a couple of new features that work wonderfully with Warioware I think make this new installment a game that does not let you rest with so many game modes or unlockable curiosities, its story mode is perhaps the most outstanding integration of all having a plot that we can enjoy equally if we are alone or in the company of friends with their cooperative, the story mode also helps to unlock new characters that are the icing on the cake in the gameplay, having several characters that we can use in the mini-games in different ways each other, allowing us to discover little by little the skills of each and its multiple uses in the challenges proposed by the new creation of Wario.
The randomness of each of the Warioware games is its real attraction and taking into account that each of the characters can be mixed between all these mini-games results in an even larger variety of micro-games that we can come across, each one having a difficulty depending on the character we are going to use, as well as several objectives that will change depending on which character we get, all this with time on us to each new game that we get on screen, and is that this new Warioware recovers all the essence of the previous ones and it seems that we have never left the lair of the villain.
The confusion in this game reaches the limits of the series having to form our team of characters we can choose to choose the most available, but we have to take into account that the more characters we take to the action more chaotic will be each of the mini-games varying in certain cases to shoot targets to virtually a treasure hunt, This will be even more relevant in the story mode since this constant increase of characters is represented as the progressive difficulty of the campaign, a very creative way to test us and to raise the difficulty along with the unlockable characters.
Anyway, I still haven't been able to get through even the first few rounds of the story mode but I'm still having tons of fun courtesy of our uncle Nintendo, I may have watched the Nintendo Direct several times but I'm always amazed by the strange projects that come out of the company to survive the wave of titles from mainstream consoles, Nintendo has become the king of improvisation in their games and we are slowly noticing the oddities that we may be encountering in the coming years, but for now, I enjoy this Warioware just like when I was a kid.
