A brilliant original idea in the midst of a multi-competitive industry: Knockout City
The developer EA has been for several years one of the studios with which players do not feel comfortable, among their games attracting and already bordering the definition of video games as a paid service in each of its features in addition to the collective hatred that its multiple studies have generated due to generic video games, often looking more for the money than the satisfaction of their players. In recent years the developer has taken a turn that I feel is for the benefit of users, creating a studio named EA Originals in which they would finance and develop other types of games, more original, with more influence of their authors behind them and with greater creative freedom on all fronts, I had already checked their potential when I played A Way Out which I found a solid experience to start the journey of this studio. Now they present us with another proposal that strengthens my confidence with EA Originals and gives me a bit of hope with the other IPs that EA has up its sleeve, I think it's a great precedent to see better games from the developer.
Knockout City is a proposal that while not entirely original I think with the execution of gameplay in conjunction with how fun it is, I think it deserves a better focus among all that EA presents. It is a video game that also highlights the creativity of one of its creative and perhaps intellectual creator of the work, Josef Fares has an excellent future ahead of this studio funded by one of the giants of the industry and just now they risk with a competitive multiplayer, one of those strange games that are both original and fun and that stand out in the market by themselves, and is that Knockout City has many advantages in its house, it follows in the wake of lighthearted games like Sunset Overdrive or Fortnite but gives it its own energy and dynamics, the game is based on a traditional game in schools so it is easy to understand from start to finish and that also allows you to explore other functions and mechanics that are very fun.
As I said Knockout City is a competitive multiplayer video game that at the moment you enter surely comes to mind Fortnite or some other colorful and funny game, they put us in one of two teams and release us on the map with a single objective, Eliminate the opponent's team hitting balls, if we attack the balls we are eliminated, the first to eliminate all opponents, wins. At its base, it is very simple how the game works, but now is that the game adds a whole series of unique mechanics to make each game a real spectacle.
One of the factors that have completely surprised me about the game is how many variants there are just for throwing the ball, we can throw it using launchers or trampolines or change the speed, give it a curve when we are behind an obstacle to surprise our opponents or even make combinations with our teammates to take the opposing team by surprise, really the amount of plays that lend themselves to these mechanics seems to have no limits and that makes each game more and more unpredictable.
Surprisingly, despite having many mechanics that we can combine and that the game requires hand-eye coordination to win, I have not seen the new EA title as a difficult game to handle, the controls are simple and the explanations of the mechanics are basic but invite you to experiment with them, so it will not be long until we learn to coordinate for example the rapid fire with some elements of the stage as the trampolines or slides, or slow fire with the effect of changing direction to give an extra touch of strategy to the games.
The gang systems is also another mechanic that has interested me and that resembles the clans of other games, with our group we can participate in games and tournaments plus we can have our own colors and designs, something that comes great if we think that this game intends to launch in a few months to E-Sports, and although there are not too many possibilities in terms of customization I think that in future updates we will see some significant change in this.
In summary, Knockout City is a fun game that depends on a single mechanic to entertain us for hours, the way to play it still reminds me too much to other FPS but I think the game uses very well its mechanics to differentiate itself, there are many good maps that add something more to the cocktail plus each game is a new world, it has come to me by surprise in recent days and I do not regret playing it at all, I am very competitive for these games and I had a while without playing it so it was great to spend the weekend relaxing at home.
