And we have a new gift from Epic!
This time they've really hit a home run, although it's true that this whole month they've had a more than acceptable streak with the free video games they always give away at Christmas as part of their program to attract players to their launcher, and it seems that this year in particular they have decided to invest a lot of money to have a good catalog to give away to players.
DISCO ELYSIUM is the game that can be claimed today for the next 12 hours, a true cult game that I wish more people knew about, also a contender for GOTY a couple of years ago. It's one of those unusual titles, but once you fully understand everything behind its unique gameplay, you'll have a great time.
Here you don't play as the typical hero. You are a broken detective, with mental, emotional, and physical problems, waking up in a decadent, dirty city, loaded with ideology, history, and social conflicts. From the first minute, the game makes it clear that it won't hold your hand. Everything is built through dialogue, decisions, and, above all, your mind.
One of the most interesting aspects of Disco Elysium is its skill system, where each trait of your personality literally talks to you. Your logic, your empathy, your authority, your inner chaos… they all argue with each other while you make decisions. This makes every playthrough different and means there's no single "correct" way to play. You can be an exemplary police officer, a walking disaster, a political idealist, or someone completely lost, and the game adapts to that.
Visually, I think it's among my favorite games; the art style also sets it apart. No realism or anything conventional, but a painterly aesthetic, almost like a moving oil painting, that perfectly matches the melancholic and philosophical tone of the game. The music is a masterful accompaniment, reinforcing that constant feeling of being in a world that's falling apart, but still retains its beauty.
It's not a game for everyone, and that's okay. It's one of those unusual titles that, once you understand what it offers and let yourself be drawn in by its unique gameplay, I think you'll understand why it should be among those games you'll almost always keep in your library. At least I had it on my old PC, and now I'll have it on Epic, and I might even play it again to show it to you.
The fact that Epic is giving it away, even if only for today, is a perfect opportunity to discover why Disco Elysium is considered one of the most important narrative games of recent years. Claim it, it's free, and let's also keep an eye out these last few days of the year because some good surprises are coming if Epic continues to release classics for Christmas.

Y tenemos un nuevo regalo de Epic!
Esta vez si que la han sacado de Home Run aunque es cierto que todo este mes han tenido una racha mas que aceptable con los videojuegos regalados que siempre dan en navidad como parte de su programa para atraer jugadores a su launcher, y parece que este año en particular han decidido poner bastante dinero encima para poder tener un buen catalogo que regalar a los jugadores
DISCO ELYSIUM es el juego que se va a poder reclamar hoy hasta dentro de 12 horas, un autentico juego de culto que me gustaria que supiesen mas personas de su existencia, uno de los contendientes tambien a GOTY hace un par de años, es uno de esos titulos que son inusuales pero que una vez entiendes bien todo lo que hay detras de su jugabilidad particular te la pasas en grande
Aquí no juegas como el típico héroe. Eres un detective roto, con problemas mentales, emocionales y físicos, despertando en una ciudad decadente, sucia, cargada de ideología, historia y conflictos sociales. Desde el primer minuto, el juego te deja claro que no te va a llevar de la mano. Todo se construye a través del diálogo, las decisiones y, sobre todo, de tu mente.
Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de Disco Elysium es su sistema de habilidades, donde cada rasgo de tu personalidad literalmente te habla. Tu lógica, tu empatía, tu autoridad, tu caos interno… todos discuten entre sí mientras tomas decisiones. Esto hace que cada partida sea distinta y que no exista una única forma “correcta” de jugar. Puedes ser un policía ejemplar, un desastre ambulante, un idealista político o alguien completamente perdido, y el juego se adapta a eso.
Visualmente creo que está entre mis juegos favoritos, el estilo artístico también lo distingue. Nada de realismos ni nada cojnvencional, sino una estética pictórica, casi como un óleo en movimiento, que encaja perfectamente con el tono melancólico y filosófico del juego. LA MUSICA acompaña de forma magistral, reforzando esa sensación constante de estar en un mundo que se cae a pedazos, pero que sigue teniendo belleza.
No es un juego para todo el mundo, y eso está bien. Es uno de esos títulos inusuales que, una vez entiendes lo que propone y te dejas llevar por su jugabilidad particular creo que se entiende por que deberia estar entre esos juegos que casi siempre vas a tener en la biblioteca esperando, al menos yo lo tenia en mi vieja pc y ahora lo voy a tener en Epic y puede que me lo juegue para enseñarselos
Que Epic lo esté regalando, aunque sea solo por hoy, es una oportunidad perfecta para descubrir por qué Disco Elysium es considerado uno de los juegos narrativos más importantes de los últimos años. Reclámalo, es gratis y tambien estemos pendientes estos ultimos dias del año porque se vienen algunas buenas sorpresas si epic sigue sacando clasicos por la navidad
