| ............................................................................ | ...................................... |
|---|---|
| Thief | |
| Tomb Raider | |
| Legacy Of Kain | |
| Deux Ex | |
| Kane & Linch | |
| Urban Chaos | |
| Crash n Burn | |
| Championship Manager |

Not too long ago I commented that the environment of the video game industry is having some very marked changes in recent years, it becomes strange to see how a medium with which I grew up throughout my life has had such a gigantic boom to the point where it is said that the video game moves more money than industries that have been ruling for decades in entertainment such as Film and Television, I believe that it is based on this that many of the giants of the sector are taking the role that once had the studios like Fox and Warner and are acquiring everything they can (studios, IPs, everything) before the fever passes, today has been written another crucial chapter to understand this phenomenon as a decisive one in this industry.
I must admit that Square Enix is one of the studios that I esteem the least when I think of game developers, I feel that it has been for decades in a situation of irregularity, not knowing well what to do with some of the most iconic characters of the medium and executing half-baked ideas, Think of EA but on a smaller scale and you will have what I feel is Square Enix and all its constellation of studios, a lot of wasted ideas that sooner or later is that brings decent experiences to market, perhaps its most famous "failure" is the Avengers video game that left more than one thinking that another studio should take the baton of that development.
Now that developer has just sold a large part of its most important studios to Embracer Group, which has quietly spent just over 300 million on this acquisition, not only that but what is considered the giant of Europe has been spending over 8 billion on acquiring and buying studios and intellectual properties since 2020, a figure that enters the particular cloud in which several of gaming's most important companies have recently pulled out their wallets and made some of the biggest deals in the history of the medium, particularly the acquisition of Blizzard by Microsoft has been the largest purchase ever recorded in gaming since its inception.
Just to mention some of the titles joining the ranks of this conglomerate is the Tomb Raider series that has had a small rebirth with a trilogy of games by Crystal Dinamics, Deux Ex and Thief, some of the most long-lived and beloved franchises by gamers join a developer that already has under its belt studios like Gearbox Entertainment (Borderlands) or that in a few years ago took over the developer THQ after it went bankrupt, now with this new acquisition Embracer puts itself in a good position to take a piece of the pie from the other giants of the industry, already announced that they will bring this year more than 70 games and has increased its staff by 93% to meet this goal.
Just to give you a little summary of all the wonders Embracer now has in its catalog.
Square Enix Montreal: Studio developer of several of the modern Hitman titles as well as responsible for the modern Tomb Raider trilogy, is the studio I see most fit to develop decent experiences, they have also developed Deux Ex.
Crystal Dymamics: the most pointed out, it has some sharp relapses like when the Avengers game came out but in its best moments and with creative freedom (something that Embracer has) I think it can bring very good games.
Eidos Interactive: with more than 30 years of experience in the sector Eidos is one of the studios that I am excited to see back in the scene, for some time they had been absorbed by Square Enix and now with this new purchase there is a good chance that they will be positioned as a leading studio.
Which sagas have been bought by Embracer?
| ............................................................................ | ...................................... |
|---|---|
| Thief | |
| Tomb Raider | |
| Legacy Of Kain | |
| Deux Ex | |
| Kane & Linch | |
| Urban Chaos | |
| Crash n Burn | |
| Championship Manager |
Those are just some of the IPs that are known to have been acquired automatically with the main purchase, then we would have to see if titles like Sleeping Dogs that were also part of the Square Enix catalog after rescuing the development of EA would also integrate this acquisition, the truth is that this year has been an incredible display of all the companies that are willing to spend tens of millions of dollars in a weighty position in this industry, We already saw it with Sony and Microsoft with their respective disbursements and now we are seeing giant conglomerates making their moves as well, what is coming in the next few years is a real party for gamers having so many studios working to develop good experiences.
The portfolio of titles that Embracer has made appeals to the sure thing, franchises that are loved by gamers and critics alike and that can take center stage in the next few years, personally I am hoping for a new Deus Ex development but it has already been announced that both Tomb Raider and Legacy Of Kain are in pre-production stages for a new game, we will have to wait but it is safe to say that the next few years are going to be crazy.

Yeey you made it to the end of the post :) thanks for joining me today!
