Earlier this week, myself and several other players were invited to a special preview/playtest for the upcoming Gods Unchained expansion, Trial of the Gods.
I managed to fit in nine games in the two hours were allotted and I switched decks several times. Below are my two matches using one of the pre-built Nature decks, and another two using a pre-built Death deck
Match #1: Regen Nature vs Deception Guild (yellorambo)
For my first matches, I opted for a pre-built deck based around creatures with Regen and Trial of the Hydra. The Arkmonian Hydra was also in the deck, but I never had a chance to play it.
This deck felt was easy to play and felt like something that a new player could pick up and run with. Nature has a lot of early board control, and once you get 2-3 regen Creatures out and buff them with the Trial, you're all set!
Match #2: Regen Nature vs Anubian Death (yellorambo)
Ran into yellorambo again. This time around he was trying out an Anubian Death Wish deck. Seems a little counter-intuitive to me as Anubians like to be in the void so they can be brought back. This game lasted a little longer than the previous matchup, but like that one, I felt in control most of the time. Much like the currently available Amazon deck, this Nature Regen deck is designed to really ramp up the pressure around the 5-6 mana mark.
Another victory! After this I moved on to a pre-built death deck.
Match #3: Anaraxia Death vs Control Magic (Totally not Freedan)
This deck is built around damaging yourself, triggering Ataraxia and hitting your opponent with something nasty before they are ready for it.
I definitely have the 'damaging myself' portion of this deck down. The rest of it, not so much. I did manage to get past the double Demogorgon play from my opponent when we hit seven mana, but I left myself too vulnerable health-wise to pull out a win (I also never drew Echophon).
That one didn't go so well. Let's try again!
Match #4: Ataraxia Death vs Regen Nature (Pax)
Not much luck on this one either. Almost managed to hold out for End Times, but the Trial of the Hydra gave his Creatures the boost they needed to get in the finishing hits one turn before I could play it. I suspect that I am probably not playing this deck correctly. I'm not entirely sure what I should be mulliganing for. Ataraxia? Hydra?
So that's Part One, covering my first four matches with two different Gods. I'll post Part 2 as soon as I can.
