It was so nice to finally play Fifa 22, even though I played it less than a month after its release. I got to play the title on October 31st (my birthday by the way) and I must say it took a bit of adjusting.
EA sports made a lot of mistakes in Fifa 21 and one of the key ones was making scoring so easy. It seemed like they were trying to make amends for making 20 so difficult to score in. 21 is so easy - I mean just a slight miscalculation in your defensive settings and you will find yourself losing by a 5 goal margin to someone that you usually beat daily. The defensive organisation is so poor, you look at the game with some scorelines and just conclude that the AI is lacking in the I department. It got to a point where we coined a phrase that "goals cure the defensive foolishness" because your defenders will just start to jonze no matter your good intentions and it won't stop till the ball crosses the line (either as a goal, a goal kick or a corner).
This flaw has been fixed in 22, so boooy is it harder to score. You have to actually show your workings when attempting to face a defence - like you need to come correct in an attack. The defensive organisation was greatly improved in the new edition and I think I like it better. Although I also noticed it is harder to put the ball in the net even when you have beat the defence.
As for movement and flow, I'm not certain I have the right feedback as I played the game on an Xbox and not Playstation and we had established that both consoles have different feels to soccer, but from what I saw, you can't just be running anyhow again. It felt a bit dragged and I still for now want to blame that on the console. I will be able to give updates on that when I play on a PS5.
What about you? Have you played Fifa 22? What are your thoughts?
