A cute nostalgia trip 🎩⏳

I recently took the time to thoroughly scan through the entire PS Plus game catalog. While doing so, I discovered 16 new games to download that I somehow had skipped over for many months. The first of those games that I decided to play was A Hat In Time.

A Hat in Time is a charming and critically acclaimed 3D platformer developed by Gears for Breakfast. Released in 2017, the game harkens back to the golden era of the genre, drawing inspiration from classics like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. Players assume the role of Hat Kid, a space-traveling, hat-wielding protagonist who must collect Time Pieces to fuel her spaceship and thwart the sinister plans of the Mustache Girl. The game's colorful art style, whimsical characters, and clever level design create an endearing and nostalgic experience for players of all ages.

One of the standout features of "A Hat in Time" is its imaginative and diverse worlds. Each level offers a distinct theme, from a movie studio filled with quirky characters to a spooky haunted forest, providing a variety of environments that keep the gameplay fresh and engaging. The game encourages exploration, and players can use Hat Kid's various hats, each with unique abilities, to navigate intricate landscapes, solve puzzles, and uncover hidden secrets.

The game has received praise for its tight controls, creative level design, and delightful sense of humor. A Hat in Time successfully captures the essence of classic 3D platformers like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie while adding its own modern twist. With its lovable characters, vibrant visuals, and entertaining gameplay, the game is celebrated as a standout title in the indie gaming scene.

As much as I love many of the 3D platformers that I played as a kid, A Hat In Time just didn't really hit for me. I had heard that the beginning levels are somewhat basic, so maybe that's what it was for me. I just didn't have the patience to wait it out until the better parts of the game.
