Welcome to Tokyo 🏯🇯🇵🍡🎑
I've been pretty hyped for this game to finally come out. At last, I have my hands on Ghostwire: Tokyo from Tango Gameworks and Bethesda. This is a bit of an odd release considering Ghostwire is exclusive to PS5 and PC, although Microsoft just purchased Bethesda not too long ago. The contract was already in place, so the exclusivity still stands for now. Xbox gamers will have to wait a while before they can try this one out.
Ghostwire takes place in an authentic recreation of Tokyo. The only thing is, all of the humans have disappeared thanks to a mysterious fog that now shrouds the city. The humans are now scattered across the city in spirit form and it is up to Akito and his new supernatural ally KK to cleanse Tokyo and return it to its previous form.
This all probably sounds pretty crazy and trust me when I say IT IS. Ghostwire feels like something fresh in a gaming industry full of clones. This is a first-person game set in an open world filled with content. The combat is magic-focused with some bow action. Your hands work in powerful ways thanks to your new form of human/spirit.
If you are like me and can't help but be obsessed with Japanese culture, then this game is sure to please you. Some people aren't huge fans of the combat, but I'm liking it a decent bit. I've also heard that a few gamers feel as though the map has too much filler content, but I appreciate the number of things to do because it encourages me to explore this creepy world even more.
Speaking of the world, this is the best version of Tokyo that I've seen in a video game. It is either raining or wet and about to rain all of the time and it looks marvelous. Neon signs light the streets and make for such a dope vibe. Enemies are unique versions of yōkai that are deeply rooted in Japanese mythology. This is about as authentic of a Japanese game you can get and it's not even in the JRPG genre. The PS5's DualSense controller really brings it all to life too. Raindrops can be felt realistically in the palm of your hands and so many other intelligent uses of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
I'm super excited to continue playing this game and see how much better or worse it gets as I progress. I will be sure to update with more videos and of course, photo mode captures. For now, this is my first impressions video. I've given you a bit of text, but I discuss things even more during my gameplay. Enjoy!
