Tokyo goes supernatural 👹👐🗼🎌👺
We have finally got an in-depth look at the game that has me most curious in 2022. Ghostwire: Tokyo is a first-person action-adventure game that is set in the neon-lit streets of Tokyo, Japan. This is an ideal location for a video game in my opinion and adding in dark spiritual elements just makes me want to experience this even more.
PlayStation recently dropped a 20-minute showcase that eloquently unveils greater detail about Ghostwire: Tokyo. You can read the official recap over on PlayStation's blog or you can just continue on to see what I have to say about it.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is being developed by Japanese studio Tango Gameworks, the creators of The Evil Within. It is being published by Bethesda. The game will release on March 25, 2022.
You would think that this title would be on Xbox thanks to their acquisition of Bethesda, but that happened after this game had already worked out an exclusive deal with PlayStation. PS Plus subscribers can currently preorder the game with a 10% off discount and it will be a timed-exclusive on PS5. The game will not release on PS4. Although Ghostwire will not be on Xbox on March 25th, it will be coming to PC via Steam, so we can't say that it is truly a PlayStation exclusive.
A world of spirits 🎑🎎
I've had this game on my radar since I got my PS5 back in November of 2020. We didn't know much about the game, but the name cover art had my attention. Ghosts and Tokyo, that is something that I would dream up in my mind when wishing for the next great video game. I had a good feeling about the game, but this recent showcase has me more excited than ever. I am telling you that you have got to watch this new video that shows off just how amazing this game is about to be.
Now let me explain why this game is so impressive...
Let me start by drawing a few comparisons to give you an idea of what Ghostwire: Tokyo may feel like when playing. Imagine the supernatural element of a game like Control blended with the first-person action of something like Dishonored. Ghostwire isn't an exact blend of those two games, but that will give you a decent idea. I honestly haven't ever seen a game quite like Ghostwire, it is the uniqueness of this upcoming release that has me feeling so passionate about it.
The enemy types are creative and creepy. The different types of spirits look vastly different than what you'd find in most action-adventure games. Plus the addition of traditional Japanese music, which is often distorted thanks to electronic software, the atmosphere is leaking with a positive appeal. Just look how gorgeous the game's world looks, you cannot deny its beauty.
Wielding powers of the elements such as wind, fire, water, electricity, etc look so visually stunning and exciting to engage in combat with. The name GhostWIRE gives you a hint that a lot of the abilities will be linked to a wire-like weapon. You will be able to traverse the world and rely on this wire similar to a grappling hook of sorts. The possibilities are pretty endless thanks to the otherwordly nature of this game.
Will you preorder❓
I rarely preorder games these days. So many games that seem to be amazing launch with an endless assortment of bugs and turn out to be disappointments. I am pretty hesitant to trust developers to give us a complete game at launch, mostly thanks to the publishers rushing everything. I believe strongly that Tango Gameworks is going to deliver in a big way with Ghostwire: Tokyo. The team seems incredibly passionate and I loved all of the personalities that we met during the second half of the showcase video.
The fact that PlayStation gamers are getting this game with a slight discount at launch just encourages me even further to go ahead and let them have my money. I am so happy that we only have to wait for a little over a month for Ghostwire: Tokyo to release.
I would love to know what everyone else is thinking of this game. Is this the first time that you are hearing of Ghostwire: Tokyo? Did you play The Evil Within? Did my post alert you to the fact that you need to get a preorder asap? Leave a comment below and let's talk all things Ghostwire.
