I got my first platinum trophy on PS5
Yesterday was a great day, I finally received my PlayStation 5 after waiting nearly 2 months between the time I preordered it and when I finally opened the box. The PS5 launch gave me many options as to what games to play first. Check my list of the games that I will be playing on PS5 at launch to see my personal favorites.
This blog however is going to be focused on the first game that I tried out upon getting my PS5 setup, Astro’s Playroom. I had high hopes for this game considering it was built specifically to show off the new DualSense controller. Plus the game comes for free on every PS5. I will point out that you still have to download the game, but it starts automatically when you connect to the internet. It is not pre-installed, but if you have decent Internet then it’s no problem since the game is only around 10gb.
There were many things that had me excited for the PS5, you can see a full list of what excited me most on my previous blog the things I look forward to the most about the PS5. I decided to play Astro’s Playroom before any other game.
After spending around 4-5 hours with Astro’s Playroom, I managed to achieve the platinum trophy and get 100% on the game. I had such a great time with this one, continue on to see a video I created and read more about my thoughts on Astro’s Playroom.
My Video
The PS5 has the unique capability to automatically record 30 seconds of gameplay surrounding each time you unlock a trophy. This is hugely beneficial to a content creator such as myself.
Using the clips from all 46 of the trophies for Astro’s Playroom, I created this video on the PS5 version of ShareFactory. ShareFactory is a free video editing software available on the PlayStation Store. The application is robust and will continue to receive upgrades in the form of creator packs. All of which have been free in the past, I hope it stays that way.
The create button makes capturing content on PS5 very simple. You have several options when it comes to recording gameplay and taking screenshots and there are of course shortcuts.
- Press once to display the create controls.
- Hold the create button to take a screen shot.
- Press twice to save a video clip of your recent gameplay.
The create menu offers simple editing, the media gallery, broadcasting, and the ability to share your photos/videos. There is also the option to start a recording manually, this is the only way to record in 4K.
If you are prone to forgetting to start the recording and later on wish you had captured a video of something that happened, you can finally do that. Those types of recordings will be in 1080p and can be as long as one hour. You have to change the length in your settings to make it that long and I currently have mine set to 30 minutes.
Astro’s Playroom is great!
This game is possibly one of the best bundles with a console launch ever. Wii Sports is a tough competitor for this award, but honestly Astro’s Playroom is really so good that I would say it’s even better than the Wii launch bundle. Remember it is a free game and meant to show off the DualSense, so don’t expect a super long experience. Do however know this is very worth your time.
The first time using the DualSense should definitely be with Astro’s Playroom. That is the best way for you to truly understand just how revolutionary this controller is. This title takes advantage of what the DualSense is capable of. Haptics that make sensations in the game feel true to life. Triggers that require different pressure depending on the action you are performing. Motion controls that actually make sense and aren’t overused. Plus the built in speaker/microphone adds another layer for sound effects and even makes it possible to do things such as blow into the microphone to cause wind in-game.
There are a variety of worlds in Astro’s Playroom, all of which were featured in my video above. The main hub is based on the inside of a PS5. Plus there are so many different PlayStation easter eggs in game that range from PS 1-5. If you’ve been a fan of Sony throughout the years, you will love the nostalgia trip. There was even small scenes throughout the game with bots dressed as popular characters. At the end of my video I featured my favorite such scene featuring a Ghost of Tsushima theme inside of a storm cloud.
I had a blast experiencing all of the new gameplay mechanics and hunting down all of the collectibles. Exploring the worlds was genuinely fun and reminded me a lot of the Super Mario games, with a PlayStation flare. I highly recommend you play this game in its entirety if you are lucky enough to get a PS5.
Thanks for checking out my blog and video!
