Did somebody say Multiverseβ
No, actually they said...
MultiVERSUS
First off I just have to say that the name Multiversus is absolutely genius. Some who do not read/listen carefully may call it wrong a time or two, but quickly the iconic name will catch on. The name also explains how all of these characters from different tv shows and movies will manage to land on one giant roster of fighters.
This is a free-to-play platform brawler of the likes of Super Smash Bros.

Warner Bros. β Smash Bros. = Multiversus
So far there have been 13 characters announced for Multiversus, with many more TBA. If you know your film, then you will quickly notice the current roster consists of Warner Bros. characters. This studio owns the rights to a nearly endless amount of characters that we all know and recognize. Super Smash Bros. has a classic and also ever-growing roster of characters. The Smash roster comes from licenses that gamers know by heart, but gamers are a lesser audience than that which Warner Bros. possesses with its movies and tv mega fans.
Warner Bros. not only has the rights to characters but also easy access to celebrities that have starred as those characters in Hollywood films. We have been promised that, unlike Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl (another Smash clone), Multiversus will have voice actors. This game is not skimping on the caliber of the voices either. For instance, Arya and Shaggy will both be played by the faces that we recognize as those characters. Kevin Conroy is also accustomed to his role of Batman. The list goes on. I'm sure the marketing team is saving the best for closer to launch. If Multiversus can outdo Sakai's SSBros. character reveals, then this brawler could become extremely popular.
Just imagine if this game has Keanu Reeves to voice Neo from The Matrix! Keanu would obviously need to be involved with that reveal. This is not at all impossible, Keanu played an entire 3D character in Cyberpunk 2077. He was there at CD Projekt RED many times before the public even knew he was part of that game. Plus there is a new Matrix movie coming this month on December 22. Why not ride the wave of hype and give gamers a back-bending, pistol-wielding guy, in a trench coat with black shades. What about John Wick vs Neo? That would draw people in. They could drop John Wick in the game a week before John Wick 4 releases on May 27, 2022. That would increase ticket sales and stream numbers for sure.
Take a moment to look over this list of Warner Bros. films, sorted from newest to oldest. If you watch a lot of things on HBO Max, then you probably watch a lot of Warner Bros. They could draw from so many timeless movies. For instance, a dolphin fighter that was inspired by Dolphin Tale. I'm dreaming over here.
Don't forget that a Mortal Kombat character seems very likely to make it into this game as well, especially because of the recent revival of MK films. Street Fighter characters made it into Smash, this kind of crossover has happened before. Plus the name of the game is MULTIVERSUS, so literally, anything is possible considering the assets at hand.

Potentially something huge πβπ¨
This is a bigger list of characters that I found on Reddit. It is not official by any means, but it is a genuine list of Warner Bros.-owned characters. Just picture what it would be like if they get Will Ferrell to voice Buddy from Elf and do something like, make his character exclusive to the Christmas season. People would go nuts for those quips and could enjoy the one-liners with their families during the holidays.

I'm not just going to hype this video game up, wouldn't you like to see it in action? Well, guess what, you can. Developers https://www.playerfirstgames.com/ released a really well-put-together 3-4 min video. You will get to see plenty of gameplay and also hear from the devs themselves. The production quality on this is top-notch, Tony Huynh (Co-Founder and Game Director) is passionate about what he does and it is obvious.

The only thing that concerns me about this game is that it is free to play. We know for sure that there will be microtransactions, which is the formula for the F2P Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) model. You cannot just release a game for free, you have to make money off of it, especially if you are paying to hire all of these expensive actors.
Will we still have a chance to unlock characters, costumes, and new stages? Or will you have to pay for all of the extra content? Some of it? What costs and what can be earned. There are so many questions to ask. I'm sure all will be answered in due time, but they are still focusing on this upcoming playtest with an unannounced start date. Check your emails after you sign up for early access.
Multiversus is set to launch sometime in 2022 β³
Multiversus is coming to all consoles, except Nintendo Switch.
What do you think of this game? Will Multiversus give Super Smash Bros. a run for their money?
