Grand Theft Hong Kong 🇭🇰🐲🚨

If you have ever wished to play Grand Theft Auto in Hong Kong, then Sleeping Dogs is your game. This game is 10+ years old now, but I can confirm that it holds up very well in 2024. I recently purchased the game on sale for only $5. I had played it many years ago, but never finished it, and felt like now was a good time to jump back into it.

Sleeping Dogs is an action-adventure video game developed by United Front Games and published by Square Enix. The title was released in 2012, with this Definitive Edition coming out in 2014. The game is set in an open-world rendition of Hong Kong and follows the story of Wei Shen, an undercover police officer tasked with infiltrating the notorious Triad organization known as the Sun On Yee. The game seamlessly blends intense martial arts combat, gripping storytelling, and an immersive open-world environment. Players navigate the bustling streets of Hong Kong, engaging in both hand-to-hand combat and intense gunfights, all while unraveling a complex narrative filled with loyalty, betrayal, and moral ambiguity.

One of the standout features of Sleeping Dogs is its dynamic combat system, heavily inspired by Hong Kong action cinema. Wei Shen is a skilled martial artist, and players can execute a wide range of moves, counters, and grapples in fluid sequences. The game's melee combat is complemented by a compelling story that explores Wei's internal struggle between his duty as a police officer and his growing ties to the criminal underworld. The narrative is filled with twists and turns, keeping players on the edge of their seats as Wei navigates the treacherous waters of undercover work.

Beyond its combat and storytelling, Sleeping Dogs also offers a detailed and atmospheric recreation of Hong Kong. The city is bustling with life, featuring vibrant markets, neon-lit streets, and a mix of traditional and modern architecture. The open-world setting provides players with opportunities for exploration, side quests, and various activities, adding depth to the overall gaming experience. With its engaging narrative, authentic setting, and dynamic gameplay, Sleeping Dogs stands out as a memorable entry in the action-adventure genre.

The was one of my favorite open-world games when it first came out. I am surprised that it still plays so well. If you were cool with the GTA Remasters, then Sleeping Dogs will be more than good enough for you. This game may scratch an itch that you didn't even know you had.
