Down to the lair of horror we go 😟

You may start over at the beginning every time that you die in Returnal, but there is more to it than just restarting. If you manage to make it pretty far in each of your cycles, you will be finding small little pieces of the story here and there. I made it to the first biome's boss Phrike one time so far but died in that fight. Since I have discovered this location deep within one of my cycles, it seems to show up a lot quicker now. It is not guaranteed to be one of the first rooms you find, but it very well could be.

I stumbled upon Phrike in about 5 minutes during my fifth cycle. I didn't spend much time gathering upgraded weapons or other helpful things scattered across the map. I jumped straight into this battle and was determined to win finally.

I was nowhere near properly equipped to deal with Phrike this second time. This boss has multiple layers to its health, three in total. After you break through each layer, Phrike becomes more aggressive and begins to use more dangerous attacks. I powered through health bar one and two, but by the time I reached the third, I was wiped away quickly. I was not prepared for the non-stop barrage of close-range damage coming from Phrike. Perhaps losing a second time will give me the knowledge that will be needed to defeat Phrike during our third battle against one another.
