Not gonna lie, I got this because I got jelly from Pusen's screenshots in Hive Gaming Discord.
And after purchasing it and pressing install, and it being installed in a matter of minutes, I think you can imagine me being surprised to see that the actual game only requires 1GB of disk space.
After firing it up for the first time, the first thing I check is the controls.
I'm just that kind of guy. I'm not really a person who goes Gung ho at anything on sight, and want at least the basic minimum of knowledge.
And so my story begins in the character creation. choices are very limited but I think this is good enough.
At the very least you get free clothes to start the journey.
As with Demotry, my next favorite word for a name (of a place or a group) is Naughtzero. and like my screen name, I just combined two words with the same meaning.
Well not exactly. as zero has a value while naught means nothing.
Once I pressed Start, There's this really long loading. but don't worry it only does this on the first time. probably RNG generating the landscapes and objects of the world.
I like this, the lore is explained really well in just three paragraphs and a sentence.
"Dark Souls?" that's what my first impression of this scene. "it's a roc" but then it took me about a few seconds to realized this scene is in-game and I can move my mouse. "oh it's a large raven."
The giant bird dropped my character in a place that what I identify as a ...'Stonehenge'.
Then I met this bird with an exclamation point on top of it. I also noticed the UI, the torch on the top left, "wet" and map on the top right. a mini trident and what I would assume as health on the bottom left.
I like this. the goal is explicitly stated. so I must vanquish these so called forsaken. I guess the taller the monument, the bigger the PP of the forsaken in question. (Peak Power)
A few moments later and the sky and the surrounding start to shift.
This is nice.
I proceed to admire the scenery and try to 'guess' what I must do only to be interrupted my a monster named Greyling. I quickly equipped my torch and whack it and proceed to watch it burn as it runs to the stream.
I also noticed that everything you do will increase the skill level of what you did.
After that encounter, I checked my inventory and noticed that you can craft things.
I found this mushroom it's edible. so the mini trident in the bottom left is a fork. huh. the mushroom gives +15 health and +15 stamina, and regenerates +1 health per tick for 15 minutes.
Using the stone axe, I decided to whack things. branches, beeches, birches. don't ask me why they are named like that. I just read them as I see them. my axe deal 0 damage to birches. which makes me understood the existence of a better axe. I also noticed that items have a durability bar.
after crafting the hammer, I created a workbench. which unlock a bunch of things all of which are related to construction. I also found out that the workbench needs to be inside a house before you can use it.
I started taking down trees for wood, I also realized you can take damage from falling logs. which I assumed can be worked as a 'rolling log trap.'
and then darkness came. I built this campfire. because the system told me that my character feels cold. I also noticed that equipment that reached 0 durability does not disappear, which meant they can be repaired.
I also started construction of my house and realized that parts needs a certain 'strength' relative to its foundation planted to the world. It's realistic which is nice.
nice.
the next day I found this, I assume this is one of the 'forsaken' that I must slay, I leave it be.
after a while I finished building the house, It was a nice experience overall, like placing many wooden post below the house to support it. I also placed the Workbench inside, you can craft advanced tools with it and most importantly repair tools with it.
Well. This is my progression for now. I guess the next step is to explore the Workbench and crafting weapons and armors. I also noticed you can craft a simple boat. It's exciting.
I'm excited about Hive Gaming Discord planning on renting a Valheim Server. I think it will be fun.
Hehe, Thanks for reading.
Cheers~
