Nostalgia
Final Fantasy 7 is one of the greatest games ever made. It is the game that really launched the Final Fantasy series. It came out in 1997 and was one of the first RPGs that I completed.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a Playstation exclusive that came out in 2020 and I have been wanting to play it ever since I heard about it. So once it was released for Playstation Plus members, I was super excited to download this and begin playing.
I had so many great memories playing through the original and exploring the world. It had so many fun things, like the Chocobo racing.
The remake follows Cloud and his friends on the same journey they had in the original, but on top of the newer amazing visuals, it also adds so much more to the story.
It has been over 20 years since I played the original, so it has been cool to begin the journey again. The story is slowly coming back to me and I am hoping that the over the top anime voice acting doesn't ruin the experience of this game. I don't know what it is about anime characters and their weird grunts, but this game is full of it.
In the original, it takes a while before Sepheroth is introduced, but within the first hour or so of this one, they are already introducing him and setting up his story arc. It will be cool to see how they show more and more of everyone's backstories.
The graphics aren't the only thing that got an overhaul for the remake. The combat is a lot different as well. In the original, the combat was more of a turn based structure, but the remake got rid of the turn based combat and made it more action based where you have to run up to the enemies and hit them. You can also easily switch between the characters in your party and use their attacks.
I am not sure how I feel about this new combat system because it seems like most of the encounters are just spamming the attack button. But I guess it isn't much different than just selecting attack and the target each time like in the original.
I am pretty excited to play through this game and relive one of the greatest stories in video games. One of the bad things about this game is that it is just the first part of the original story and they haven't released the second part of the story yet. Part 2 has a tentative release date of winter 2023.
Did you play through the original Final Fantasy 7? If so, was it one of your favorite games as well? It is cool to see remakes of a lot of the great video games from the 90s and early 2000s. It is even better when the remakes are done with care and add so much more to the originals. I can't wait to finish playing through this one and seeing everything that they have added to the already amazing story.
