More cards have been revealed from the Abyss Eye Pokemon Japan set to be released on May 22. The English cards will be in the Pitch Black set in July 2026.
Poltchageist
Poltchageist is a weak 30 HP Grass Basic Pokemon. It does have Fire weakness and a zero retreat cost.
Furtive Drop for any 1 Energy places 1 damage counter on your opponent's Active Pokemon.
The Ghost Veil ability is a very unique and strong defensive ability. This Pokemon cannot be affected by effects of attacks or Abilities from the opponent's Pokemon. Ghost Veil protects against Munkidori, Dragapult ex's attack or Froslass (for example).
Sinistcha
Sinistcha is the evolved form of Poltchageist. This also has the Ghost Veil defensive ability.
Matcha Spin for one Energy works if there are 6 or more Pokemon in your discard with the Ghost Veil ability. You place 4 damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokemon.
I don't know if this attack is good. Someone will come up with some combos for spread damage and multiple knockouts.
Shuppet
Shuppet as an attacker is not great but it does have the Ghost Veil ability.
Banette
Banette is the Stage 1 evolution of Shuppet. The HP is not very high at 80 but it has the Ghost Veil ability as well.
For one Psychic Energy, the Doll Catch deals 80 damage plus you may search your deck for any 1 card and put it into your hand. (Shuffle deck after.)
Dhelmise
This Dhelmise is a very dangerous attacker. Regretful Rage requires 1 Psychic Energy to deal 30 base damage. If you have 4 or more Pokemon in your discard pile with the Ghost Veil ability, then this attack does 140 more damage (170 in total).
It is not too difficult to get at least 4 Ghost Veil Pokemon in the discard pile. Even though Professor's Research is not in the format, you have discard cards like Ultra Ball, Prism Tower Stadium, the not so used Naveen, Morty's Conviction, Iris's Fighting Spirit. Maybe the ACE SPEC Brilliant Blender could be good (maybe overkill though).
One energy for 170 damage is pretty serious business. This one hit knockouts Meowth ex to get you 2 Prize cards. Attach a Brave Bangle to boost 30 damage against Pokemon ex. Combine this Dhelmise with Lillie's Clefairy ex to one hit knockout Dragapult ex. Dragapult ex in the Perfect Order format is the most popular attacker at around 35% metagame share.
Spiritomb
Spiritomb is a 60 HP Basic Psychic Pokemon with Dark weakness, Fighting resistance and a one retreat cost.
The Soul End is a niche attack that requires 13 or more Pokemon with the Ghost Veil ability in the discard pile. You then choose 2 of the opponent's Pokemon and quadruple the number of damage counters on each of them.
In theory, you can get multiple knockouts, multiple prize cards or even win the game. The hard part is getting damage in the first place and meeting 13 Ghost Veil Pokemon in the discard pile.
Litwick & Lampent
Litwick is an okay early game attacker. It is needed for Lampent, Chandelure or Mega Chandelure ex.
Lampent does not attack but the Returning Lights attack is good. You search your deck for up to 3 Lampent and put them onto your Bench. Being able to Bench evolved Pokemon is pretty powerful as you sort of cheat the evolution process. No need to wait for a turn.
Mega Chandelure ex
Here is Mega Chandelure ex. This Stage 2 Psychic Pokemon has 350 HP, Dark weakness and a two retreat cost.
The Cursed Flame ability is active as long as Mega Chandelure ex is in play. The opponent's Active Pokemon's Retreat Cost is 1 Colourless Energy more.
Phantom Maze requires 2 Psychic Energy for its attack. The base damage is 130. This attack does 50 more for each Colourless Energy in the opponent's Active Pokemon's Retreat Cost. The minimum damage would be 180 damage.
Marshadow
Marshadow is a 90 HP Basic Psychic attacker. The Shadow Knot attack for 1 Psychic energy does 30 damage times the number of Colourless Energy in the opponent's Active Retreat cost. This attack is okay but it is not dangerous enough for big Knockouts.
Gywnn Supporter
Gwynn looks like a very good Draw Supporter card. Discard up to 2 non-Rule Box Pokemon from your hand. Then draw 3 cards for each Pokemon discarded in this way.
Note that Rule Box Pokemon include Pokemon ex, Mega Pokemon ex, Pokemon V (not in standard format), etc. You cannot discard these Pokemon.
The Gywnn supporter goes very well with decks that want discarded Pokemon cards like the Ghost Veil Pokemon.
Notes
These new Ghost Pokemon from the Abyss Eye set is likely to offer good competitive deck archetypes. More Dragapult ex counters are kind of needed as the popularity of the deck is very high. Dragapult ex decks are a safe choice as the deck is not too expensive, it has a good draw engine, a good attacker and not many weaknesses. Dhelmise looks like a super dangerous attacker and Dragapult ex counter with Lillie's Clefairy.
Mega Chandelure ex looks okay. Not awful but not amazing. A deck around this may not be good right now. It could be a good deck archetype in the future.
Ghost Veil looks like a decent deck archetype. Let's see what Japan comes up with when the set releases in a few weeks.
