Hi there. In this Pokemon TCG post, I cover the Mega Dream ex special set reveal. This set releases on November 28, 2025 as Japan's annual High Class Pack set. This Mega Dream ex special set will be like Prismatic Evolutions from early 2025.
Not official but I think this special set will release in English and internationally in early 2026. This set contains reprinted cards from the 2025 expansion sets. This allows fans to get cards they may have missed. Reprints also increases the supply of cards which brings the prices of cards. Lower prices helps collectors and players gets cards as well as hurt greedy scalpers.
There will be some new cards and new arts of previous cards.
New Art Cards Ft. Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex
Dreepy & Drakloak Illustration Rares
Dreepy & Drakloak are common in popular Dragapult ex decks. These two art cards are really colourful.
Mega Gengar ex + Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex
The photo of the new Mega Gengar ex illustration rare is not great. Maybe it looks better physically.
As of late I do like how some of the illustration rare cards look like anime scenes. This new Marnie's Grimmsnarl ex is one of them.
Mega Dragonite ex
Mega Dragonite ex is the main Pokemon in this special set. It is worth putting this up again even this was covered in a previous post.
The Ryuno Glide attack requires 1 Water Energy and 2 Lightning Energy to deal 330 damage. Its drawback is that you discard 2 Energy from it. 330 damage is a lot and can one hit knockout most things. This 330 damage would not one hit knockout other Mega Pokemon ex with more than 330 HP.
To meet the Energy requirements for the attack, you would have to find ways to accelerate Energy into it. I think Eelektrik is okay.
The Sky Transport ability can be used once during your turn. Switch your Active Pokemon with 1 of your Benched Pokemon. This effect is like the Item card Switch.
New Cards
Dratini & Dragonair
Dratini is needed for the Mega Dragonite ex evolution line.
What makes an evolution line good is a Stage 1 Pokemon with a good ability. Dragonair is that Pokemon. The Tail Snap attack is okay at 60 damage for one Water Energy and one Lightning Energy. The Evolution Discovery ability can be used once during your turn if Dragonair has any Energy on it. You search your deck for an Evolution Pokemon, reveal it and put it into your hand. (Then shuffle deck.) An ability for a Pokemon search is generally pretty good.
Thick Scale Tool Card
Dragon Pokemon do not have resistance but the Thick Scale Tool card somewhat replicates Resistance.
Thick Scale only works for Dragon Pokemon. The Dragon Pokemon with this tool card takes 50 less damage from attacks of your opponent's Grass, Fire, Water and Lightning Pokemon. If the competitive metagame is filled with Fire, Grass, Water and Lightning attackers then this Tool card could see some use. Otherwise, this is not really a useable card.
Canari
Canari is a good Supporter card for Lightning decks. Discard one card in order to play Canari. Search your deck for 4 Lightning Pokemon, reveal them and put them into your hand. (Shuffle deck afterwards.)
Lightning decks use Miraidon ex for early game setup and consistency. Once Miraidon ex rotates out of the Standard format, Canari would be the most likely replacement. Canari helps with finding not just Basic Lightning Pokemon. You can also search out Lightning evolution Pokemon like Eelektrik, Mega Manectric ex and ...
Mega Eelektross ex
Here is Mega Eelektross ex. This is the evolved form of Eelektrik. This has 350 HP, 2 retreat cost and Fighting weakness.
The first attack is Split Bomb. For 2 Lightning Energy you deal 60 damage to 2 of your opponent's Pokemon. Not high damage output but you can knockout weak Basic Pokemon like Duskull and Budew.
Disaster Shock is the second attack. The translation above is incorrect. It says 2 Lightning Energy but the card image shows 3 Lightning Energy for this attack. This attack does 190 damage. You have the option to discard 2 Lightning Energy from this Pokemon in order to cause Paralysis to your opponent's Active Pokemon. A Paralyzed Pokemon cannot attack nor retreat.
Closing Thoughts
I tend to stay away from these special sets with reprints. Sets like 151, Paldean Fates, Prismatic Evolutions, Black Bolt & White Flare are sets I usually stay away from for buying packs. Prices on these are much higher than regular set and too many people go crazy for them. As I am mostly a player with occassional collecting on the side, I buy single cards instead. Sometimes I buy Japanese Pokemon art cards or playable cards.
More cards are to be revealed soon. I will most likely have future posts covering this special set.
Thank you for reading.
