Pokemon Japan's next set is named Ninja Spinner. The featured Pokemon in this set is Mega Greninja ex. The release date is on March 13, 2026.
There were leaks about Mega Greninja ex that appeared on Reddit. I could've made an earlier post on it but I was not sure if it was real (even though it looked real.)
Chespin & Quilladin
Chespin and Quilladin as attackers are not great. You do need them for Chestnaught.
Chesnuaght
Here is Chesnaught. The Impound attack requires too much energy for the cost. You deal 160 damage and the Defending Pokemon cannot retreat. In theory, you can trap a non attacking Pokemon and then eventually knock it out.
The Needle Armor ability is a counterattack type of ability. If Chesnaught is in the Active Spot and is damaged by an attack from the opponent's Pokemon then you place 3 damage counters on the Attacking Pokemon for each Grass Energy attached to this Chesnaught.
One combo idea is this and Meganium. Meganium doubles the amount of Grass Energy in play. A lot of combo pieces needed to get this setup going though. As Chestnaught is a Grass type, you can use Forest of Vitality for fast evolution provided you have the evolution line.
Fennekin & Braixen
Fennekin and Braixen as attackers are not great. The Fennekin's Call for Family attack is really good in the early game. For any 1 Energy, you can search your deck for 2 Basic Pokemon and put them onto your Bench (then shuffle afterwards).
It is rare to have a Call For Family attack and it is also rare for the Call for Family attack to place 2 Basic Pokemon from deck to Bench.
Delphox
Delphox is the final evolution of Fennekin. The Energy Storm attack requires 2 Fire Energy to deal 30 damage for each Energy attached to all Pokemon in play. The minimum damage you do from this is 60 from the Delphox attack alone. Opponent decks that use a lot of Energy boost the firepower of Delphox. Yeah you can deal something like 300 damage but that would require 10 energy in play. Is it realistic/common? Not likely.
The Flare Magic ability on Delphox is a draw power ability. Once during your turn, you may discard a Fire Energy from your hand in order to draw cards until 7 in hand. You can go from a low hand size into 7 cards.
One combination I had in mind when I saw this was this Delphox and Blaziken ex. Would this be good? Maybe. There are a lot of combo pieces in order to get this setup going.
Froakie, Frogadier
Froakie and Frogadier are not great attackers but the Collect attack can be useful in the early game where you draw 1 card. Frogadier's Calling Jutsu is good for searching Pokemon from the deck and into your hand. Watch out for hand disruption like Judge.
Mega Greninja ex
Here is Mega Greninja ex, the final evolution of Froakie.
The Ninja Spinner attack requires 2 Water Energy to deal 120 base damage. You may put 1 Water Energy attached to this Mega Greninja ex into your hand yo deal 80 more damage (total of 200 damage). In terms of pure firepower, this attack is not awful but not crazy amazing.
The Mortal Shuriken ability is interesting. You can use this ability once during your turn if Mega Greninja ex is in the Active Spot. You may discard 1 Basic Water Energy card from your hand in order to place 6 damage counters on 1 of your opponent's Pokemon. It is possible to knockout weak Pokemon like Budew or Pokemon with 60 HP or less with this ability.
If there is a Battle Cage stadium in play, then you would have to place damage counters on the Active Pokemon instead of a Benched Pokemon from the ability. Battle Cage prevents damage counters from being placed on Benched Pokemon by the effects of attacks or abilities from the opponent's Pokemon.
Big Catch Net
Big Catch Net is a powerful recovery Item card for Water Pokemon. With Super Rod out of the standard play around April 2026, the only recovery cards are Night Stretcher, Sacred Ash and Energy Recylcer.
With Big Catch Net, you shuffle up to 3 Water Pokemon and up to 3 Basic Water Energy from your discard pile into your deck. It is like a better Super Rod and a mixture of Sacred Ash and Energy Recycler. This item card alone provides a good boost for Water decks.
AZ's Tranquility
AZ's Tranquility combines a Switch and healing in a Supporter card. The Pokemon that is moved to the Bench gets 80 damage healed in this way.
I can see a few decks trying out 1 copy of this card. In theory, you use this card to switch out a damaged Mega Pokemon to the bench and heal 80 damage from it.
There are other better and more useful Supporters like Boss's Orders and the new staple card Lillie's Determination than this though.
Bubble Water Energy
Bubble Water Energy is a special Energy card for Water Pokemon. You can attach this to any Pokemon and this card provides 1 Water Energy.
If this Bubble Water Energy is attached to a Water Pokemon then that Water Pokemon recovers from Special Conditions such as Poison, Asleep, Paralysis and Confusion. In addition, the Water Pokemon with this card cannot be affected by Special Conditions.
Special Conditions don't appear too much in the TCG but some of them are annoying to deal with. Having the option to heal Special Conditions on your Water Pokemon is helpful so you can keep attacking.
Closing Notes
From the reveals so far, we have the Kalos starter Pokemon and their evolutions. Mega Greninja ex as a stand alone card looks decent. It is uncertain what decks around Mega Greninja ex look like. Maybe a secondary attacker is Mega Froslass ex. Not sure.
I do think there are more surprises coming from the set such as new Mega Pokemon ex and new Trainer cards. Let's see.
