Hi. In this post, I feature a deck that I have been somewhat using in the Pokemon TCG Pocket mobile game. It is a control deck featuring Mega Absol ex & Chingling. I don't know if this is a meta deck or not. This idea seemed a bit obvious to me when Mega Rising released. It took me a while to get the cards.
I haven't really tested this on ranked ladder. The strength of this deck is unknown.
Chingling
Chingling is a 30 HP Basic Pokemon with no weakness and a zero retreat cost. The Jingly Noise attack requires 0 Energy to deal 10 damage and not allowing your opponent to play Item cards from their hand during the opponent's next turn. This attack is powerful and annoying for the opponent.
This is very similar to the Budew Pokemon in the actual TCG.
Mega Absol ex
Mega Absol ex is a Mega Basic Pokemon with 170 HP, 1 retreat cost and Grass weakness. The Darkness Claw attack requires 2 Dark Energy to deal 80 damage. You also see the opponent's hand and discard a Supporter card your find in the opponent's hand. Discarding cards is pretty powerful as there are not many recovery cards in the Pocket game.
You ideally want Chingling as the starting attacker. Mega Absol is the final boss Pokemon in this deck. When Mega Absol ex goes away you lose.
Decklist
Here is a sample decklist of this Chingling & Mega Absol ex deck.
Pokémon: 4
2 Chingling B1 109
2 Mega Absol ex B1 151
Trainer: 16
2 Potion P-A 1
2 Poké Ball P-A 5
1 X Speed P-A 2
1 Red Card P-A 6
1 Pokémon Communication A4b 316
1 Repel A3a 64
1 Giant Cape A4b 320
2 Dark Pendant A4 154
2 Professor's Research P-A 7
1 Cyrus A4b 326
2 Mars A2 155
I don't typically play control decks. Since Pocket has shorter games compared to the regular Pokemon TCG, I think it is not too bad to play control as Pocket games are shorter. This control deck has Chingling to prevent Item card usage for the opponent.
Mega Absol ex is to deal damage and discard Supporter cards. Red Card and Mars if for hand disruption to reduce hand size.
Dark Pendant for Mega Absol ex is to discard cards if they attack Mega Absol ex with the Dark Pendant. The goal is to restrict the opponent from doing much as you slowly attack away at their Pokemon.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Attacking with Chingling turn 1.
- Chingling can potentially stop opponent from playing Poke Ball and Rare Candy.
- Mega Absol ex's discarding Supporters is powerful.
- Dark advantage over Psychic types.
Cons
- Lack of firepower in damage output. 80 is not a lot.
- May not get Mega Absol ex in play. Chinglings are weak.
- Grass weakness.
- Opponent may setup a stronger Mega Pokemon than you. Their deck may not be affected by control.
Closing Notes
This may be the most annoying deck I have featured here. Control decks are not my speciality but I can play it if I wanted to. This decklist could be modified by changing 1 to 3 cards.
I think this deck is a good alternative and gets opponents confused by what you are doing. If the opponent does not know your deck in full, they are likely to walk into some traps or misplays.
