Hi there. This post is about the Gardevoir and Mewtwo ex deck in the Pokemon TCG Pocket mobile game. This Mewtwo ex is quite powerful and annoying to play against once it has its full setup.
Sample Deck List
Here is one sample Mewtwo ex deck list. It is from this site.
You may see an alternate attacker like Jynx, Meowth for drawing cards or a Kangaskhan. Kangaskhan is good as it requires one energy for its attack and 100 HP is bulky for a single prize attacker while you set up Mewtwo and the Gardevoir evolution line on the Bench.
Core Cards
Mewtwo ex
Mewtwo ex is a Basic Pokemon ex card with a bulky 150 HP. If you knockout this out you get 2 points out of 3. (You need at least 3 points to win.) The first attack of Psychic Sphere requires one Psychic Energy and one Colourless Energy to do 50 damage. Its Psydrive attack costs two Psychic Energy and two Colourless Energy to do 150 damage. Hitting for 150 damage does one hit knockout many Pokemon in the game including other Pokemon ex. This Psydrive attack is very dangerous if you are facing against it. Psydrive's drawback is discarding 2 Psychic Energy from Mewtwo ex after using the attack.
Gardevoir
The second attack Psydrive from Mewtwo ex seems expensive on its own. With Gardevoir as a supporting Pokemon it provides major Psychic energy acceleration for Mewtwo or any Psychic Pokemon.
Gardevoir's Psy Shadow ability can be used once during your turn. You can take a Psychic Energy from your Energy zone and attach it to the Psychic Pokemon in the Active Spot. Instead of attaching one Energy during your turn you can attach one Energy normally plus one Psychic Energy from Gardevoir's ability. Combine this with Mewtwo ex and you can use its Psydrive attack for 150 damage on every opponent turn. It is a powerful combo to face against.
Deck Strategy
The Mewtwo ex deck strategy is very simple. In a lot of games a lot of thinking is not really needed. You pretty much do the following:
- Set up Ralts as the Basic Pokemon in Gardevoir Evolution line
- Put Mewtwo ex in play
- Evolve from Ralts to Kirlia to Gardevoir as soon as possible.
- Protect Ralts/Kirlia when possible
- (Optional) Stall with something like Jynx, Meowth, Kangaskhan or some other non-attacking Pokemon
- When you have Mewtwo ex with Gardevoir you can attack with Psydrive for 150 damage starting with 2 Psychic Energy at the start of your turn.
Advantages Of Mewtwo ex Deck
- One hit knockout power from Mewtwo ex against many Pokemon
- Mewtwo ex has bulky HP at 150 HP
- Gardevoir's Energy acceleration ability is very good.
Disadvantages Of Mewtwo ex Deck
- Takes time to setup
- Weakness to Dark Pokemon
- Can have bad starts & vulnerable to faster aggressive decks
Closing Notes
A lot of people do not like facing Mewtwo ex decks. If you cannot disrupt their setup and/or they get lucky with a turn 3 Gardevoir then it is near impossible to beat Mewtwo ex. Some people go as far as not giving Thanks to Mewtwo ex players after they lose to it.
There are a few Pokemon ex cards that can withstand Mewtwo ex's 150 damage attack. It is not that many. From the top of my head there is Machamp ex, Venusaur ex and Dragonite.
Mewtwo ex is popular as it is not too difficult to use and it has knockout power.
