Hi there. The latest Pokemon Pocket set Mega Shine is out. This B2b set features shiny Pokemon and has 117 cards. That is a lot of cards so I feature some here.
Note: This post is long.
Phantump & Trevanant
If you get lucky, Trevanant can deal big damage.
Mega Charizard X Evolution Line
The Charmeleon is pretty much the same one from a previous set with the Ignition ability. Mega Charizard X ex does have a high energy cost for the attack. If it has 110 HP or less the Raging Blaze attack does 180 damage.
Piplup, Prinplup & Empoleon
Piplup and Prinplup are not great attackers but you need them for Empoleon.
Empoleon's attack is okay but the energy cost is high.
Phione, Slowpoke & Mega Slowbro ex
Phione's Aqua Turbo does small damage at 10 plus it accelerates 1 Water Energy to one of your Benched Water Pokemon.
Slowpoke is not great but is needed for Mega Slowbro ex.
Mega Slowbro ex's attack does 90 damage to the Active Pokemon which is not much. If you get coin flip lucky, then you deal a bit of spread damage to your opponent's Benched Pokemon.
Electrike & Mega Manectric ex
Electrike is an okay early game attacker. If you flip Heads, the Quick Attack attack does 40 damage from 1 Lightning Energy.
Mega Manectric ex is a Mega Stage 1 attacker. It does free retreat which is useful is some cases. Lightning Accelerator requires 2 Lightning Energy to deal 80 damage plus 30 more damage for each Point you have earned.
Mew & Hawlucha
There is a new version of Mew. This one is a single prize version and kind of weak. Miraculous Memory requires 1 Psychic Energy and 1 Colourless Energy to randomly choose a random Pokemon and 1 random attack from your opponent's hand or deck. Then Mew copies that attack. It is sad to see this Mew be reduced to a meme random attacker.
Hawlucha's art is the same art from the physical card version of Hawlucha. Take Down requires 2 of any Energy to deal 50 damage and 10 recoil damage to itself.
Darkrai & Morpeko
Darkrai is a 100 HP Basic Dark Pokemon with one ability and one attack. The Bad Dreams ability activates at the end of each turn. If the opponent's Active Pokemon is Asleep then you do 20 damage to that Pokemon.
Dark Slumber's attack requires 3 of any Energy to deal 40 damage plus it makes the opponent's Active Pokemon Asleep.
Morpeko's art is the same as the one from Paradox Rift in the physical TCG. Energizer Wheel requires 2 Dark Energy to deal 50 damage plus you move 2 Dark Energy from this Pokemon to 1 of your Benched Pokemon.
Zorua & Zoroark
Zorua is a Basic 60 HP Dark Pokemon. The Surprise attack for 1 Dark Energy is a strong early game attack if you get Heads.
Zoroark is a stage 1 Dark Pokemon with a single attack. For one Dark Energy, Energy Crush deals 20 damage for each Energy on your opponent's side.
Gastly, Haunter and Mega Gengar ex
Gastly and Haunter are okay attackers but you need them for Gengar or Mega Gengar ex.
Mega Gengar ex is a bulky Stage 2 Pokemon with 210 HP and one retreat cost. The Labyrinth of Shadows is a costly attack but if you pull it off, preventing the opponent from playing Trainer cards is pretty powerful.
Kartana, Scyther & Mega Scizor ex
Kartana is a strong early game attacker. One Metal for 40 damage is pretty good.
Scyther is a Grass attacker that has a weak U-Turn hit and run attack. It is needed for Scizor or Mega Scizor ex.
Mega Scizor ex is a Stage 1 200HP Metal Pokemon with one attack and two retreat cost. Bullet Slugger requires 2 Metal Energy and one of any Energy to deal 100 base damage. If this moved from the Bench to the Active Spot, then does 50 more damage.
Varoom & Revavroom
Varoom and Revavroom are not great attackers. Revavroom's Metal Transport ability allows you once during your turn to switch your Active Metal Pokemon with 1 of your Benched Pokemon.
Chatot & Druddigon
Chatot is kind of usable. Deal 10 damage plus draw 1 card from the Spinning Draw attack.
Druddigon is not for every deck. Control type decks could use this to retreat lock and annoy opponents.
Dratini, Dragonair & Dragonite
Dratini and Dragonair as attackers are not great. Dragonair's Sky Blessing attack lets you accelerate one Water Energy and one Lightning Energy from your Energy Zone to Dragonair itself.
Dragonite's Dragon Wave is a costly attack. Even though it does 150 damage, you discard one Water and one Lightning Energy afterwards.
Axew, Fraxure and Haxorus
Axew and Fraxure are not great attackers but you need them for Haxorus.
Haxorus is a 150 HP Stage 2 Dragon Pokemon. Frenzied Blade is a costly attack at one Fighting Energy, one Metal Energy and one of any Energy. This attack does 50 base damage plus 20 more damage for each Benched Pokemon on both sides. The maximum Benched Pokemon amount is 3 per player. This attack would have a maximum of 170 (50 + 6 x 20 = 50 + 120).
Maintenance, Nasty Notice & Hiking Trail
This Maintenance card does not look good. You shuffle 2 cards from your hand into your deck then you draw 1 card. There is a chance that you could draw back 1 of the 2 cards you shuffled back in.
Nasty Notice is an interesting Item card. Your opponent discards cards from their hand until they have 4 cards in hand. This punishes large hands. As there are not too many recovery cards, card discard can be pretty powerful.
Hiking Trail is a new Stadium card that activates at the end of each player's turn. That player draws cards until 3 cards in hand. I don't know if this stadium would be useful though.
Calem and Iris
Calem is a draw Supporter dependent on the number of Mega Evolution Pokemon ex in play (both sides). I think there are better draw supporters than Calem.
Iris is a niche Supporter card that goes with Haxorus. If Haxrous knocks out the opponent's Active Pokemon during this turn by damage, you get 1 more Point. In theory, this Iris is a game winning card. You can gain 1 Point plus 1 more point from Iris or 2 Points from knocking out a Pokemon ex plus 1 Point. (Three points needed to win.)
Some Shiny Cards
Like with every set, there are shiny cards. I feature some here.
The only gold cards in the set are Arboliva and Metal Core Barrier. Why these two cards? Not sure.
Some Illustration Rare Cards
Although there are some nice art cards here, some of them are reused arts from the physical Pokemon TCG.
Reused arts include Morpeko, Groudon, Miltank and Lapras.
Thank you for reading.
