Because this needs clarified, I am not talking about porn games. Leave all the sex in those you'd like. I'm talking about just about any other game that decides to include sex scenes because in the grand history of gaming I cannot think of a time anyone has ever said 'Yeah, this being here has made the game better'. Now I”m not talking about a short scene building to blackout, or something implying sex happens, but an actual sex scene.
The first time I remember something like this happening was Heavy Rain, which is a game I love (Yes, I'm more than aware of David Cage's flaws as a writer, but I still felt the good outweighed the bad), and the Quick Time Event Sex scene was pretty routinely mocked and is still pretty infamous to this day. You would have thought that would be the end of it, but more recently we had The Last of Us 2. This was somehow even worse because the sex scene involves a character the writer modeled after himself and even did the motion capture for himself. He wrote himself into a sex scene, and this kind of makes me happy I never played that game because that makes me all kinds of uncomfortable. I've seen the clip though, and yeah it's awkward as hell on its own even without that little bit of insight.
But now we have Cyberpunk which decides to ad an entirely new level by making its sex scenes take place from a first-person perspective. You see from the perspective of Johnny as he's just kind of going to town and a chick in short bursts (You don't see all the sex, just a clip show of the sex as it were) all intermingled with booze and drugs. I'm just kind of sitting there thinking 'You know, this is adding nothing to the story, I'm not exactly in the mood to jerk it right now, and if anyone were to walk in on me watching this right now things would get awkward quickly. Can this just.... end please?'
Seeing the sex has never really added to the atmosphere of a game, especially with how interactive it is. Yes, I really liked Heavy Rain, but I didn't go into that game wanting to find a way to bone some girl, yet now all the mechanics of the game are being used in this unavoidable scene. Then there are scenes like here in CyberPunk where all control is out of your hands, and you are watching stuff that doesn't add any context or depth to what's going on. Then you have the cringe that was TLOU 2. Unless this is actively the reason you signed up for a game, there has never been an instance I can think of where a Sex Scene has ever been to the game's benefit and has only ever detracted. I don't even know anyone who thinks these things are a good idea. So please, just stop with the sex scenes in games.
