Now that I'm back to hunting bosses my own size again or harder. There are no longer fights; I just breeze by for the most part. There would still, however, be some easy ones that were hard in different ways.
While it sounds a bit strange, there are a couple of bosses in V Rising that don’t fight back at all. What they do is run around and sometimes even sound any alarms. I ended up learning this the hard way when encountering Beatrice the Tailor.
While I was working on clearing out the town, I ended up seeing her at a decent distance. She, however, noticed me. Before I could get much damage down, she was already fleeing, and I ended up getting mobbed to death.
As I returned to the town to fetch my stuff, there she was again. This time, however, I knew I had culled the local population enough that I stood a decent chance. Once you have the town cleared out, she really is an easy fight. She is even a boss you could take down a few levels early, as long as you were able to clear the town fast enough. As they will respawn the next day if you are not and cause you all kinds of issues yet again.
Once I had the village to myself with no one interrupting me any further. I filled my bags with as much loot as possible. I even found a golden chest filled with goodies. The only downside was that I ended up overstaying my welcome. By the time I was done looting this place, it was daylight.
While I still sometimes would get killed by the sunlight. At this point, I was decent at finding shadows to hide in as I tiptoed around during the daylight. Long gone were the days when I'd just sit in my castle and wait for the evening to roll around. Those were good hours to work on the construction of the castle. I was so far away and had so much to do. Traving during the day was just something I'd be dealing with for the time being.
The bosses in the newer region all gave me different kinds of troubles. For one thing, the Sun Priestess healed and had adds she would spawn. It was not that she did a lot of damage. It was that my damage could hardly keep up with her ability to heal herself. What I was hoping would be a quick fight ended up taking half the evening.
One would also not be shocked that I could not stay away from the iron mine. On my way there, I ended up running into yet another boss, as this area is just packed. He was Vincent the Frostbringer. As one might guess by the way he is no longer. He kept freezing me to the point I was not sure I'd be able to kill him.
I then snuck back into the iron mine and helped myself to a couple more stacks of iron. I’m sure my base was still smelting down the last load I had acquired not long ago. I, however, had a feeling I was never going to have enough iron.
Of all the things you would think a vampire would go around stealing, cotton was not one of them. I, however, needed it for some decent armor upgrades. I ended up finding some cotton farms, and the farmers were not thrilled to see me. They, however, could not defend themselves and more times than not ran away.
You should, however, never count a farmer out. They are always quite crafty. Every single farm I'd encounter was covered in garlic lining the outer perimeter and important areas. This stuck the longer I stayed, the bigger an impact it would have on me, on the amount of damage I'd take from attackers, and reduce my overall output to do the same. It also took quite some time to wear off.
The garlic was so powerful in fact, it became quite clear farming camps and harder targets were not an option. So I ran around the map, hitting every single cotton farm I could. If they think they can stop me, they just get me hitting them even harder. I also just wanted to have enough cotton on hand that maybe I'd not need to do this for a long time.
Once I was done. I ended up sitting in my coffin in my castle for a while. I had so much garlic on me, I'm sure it would take weeks for my castle to stop smelling of that awful stuff. There was not much else I could do.
Once most of it had worn off, but still not enough. I ended up working on my castle a little bit. I’d soon have a little dungeon and a prison cell. As one might imagine, struggling to find decent blood all the time gets annoying over time.
I could now capture someone with some decent blood and drain them of it without killing them. I just had to keep them alive. I’m not sure the kind of fate you could call being kept alive. I fed them only fish, which healed any damage done from the blood-draining process and somehow lowered their suffering. Some fish healed better than others. There were even some fish I could use to try and increase the quality of blood I could acquire. Quite a strange system, but one I could not wait to get off the ground.
At first, I just captured some random villager with had not so great blood. Over time, as I found a better quality of blood, I'd end up replacing that person. You can kind of see I have a two-room dungeon behind the prison cell. In their, I'd keep the first 100% quality blood I'd find and rid myself of anything less pure.
The long-term goal was to get a couple of different types of blood at 100% quality. While I had been using almost excaluty rouge blood this entire time. It was becoming clear that having access to other types would help a lot. Rogue blood is great for normal stuff when I just want some burst damage. However, for boss fights, I needed a lot more survivability to deal with what would be coming up soon enough.
Final Thoughts
Despite all the bosses I've now taken out up till this point, it still feels like I've not put a dent in them. At least now I've gotten a few more dealt with. I’ve picked up a lot of cotton and learned to stay away from garlic. I also now have blood at home and don’t need to go out to the nearest camp anytime I'm getting quite low to harvest some.
