I know that few days ago I said that I will only play Baldur's Gate 3 after I will finish Witcher 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 let's plays...Well my curiosity got the better of me. And I played for 2 hours and 21 minutes already.( A lot of that time was spend in a character creation.) I ended up making a bard half-elf named Griffith with a dark urge origin. Griffith is inspired by one of main characters from Berserk manga. He is supposed to be handsome, intelligent and very charismatic but also devilishly ambitious. A true magnificent bastard. I thought about making him into Halfling, elf or human but in the end I went with half-elf.
The game begun with us being captured by mind flayers(some weird monsters). One mind flayer came to the room where we were kept. He took some worm from the pool and placed it to another prisoner's eye. worm attached himself to the eye and went into prisoner's head. After that mind flayer did the same to us. Then we had to create our character and another being called Guardian. After that mind flayer left the room and went away. Mind flayers ship was attacked by dragons and we were managed to free ourselves from pod(?) thingy where we were kept.
We only remembered our name and nothing more. We walked a short distance and then were attacked by another prisoner of mind flayers. A githyanki race woman called Lae'zel. At first she wanted to kill us but then we discovered that our minds are connected by worms/ parasites that were placed into our heads. So we decided to join forces and escape mind flayers ship together.
Soon we encountered a few imps who were blocking our way to freedom. They did not survive against our might for long. After that we found and released a third prisoner- another half-elf called Shadowheart. After that we saw how another captive was turned into a new mind flayer by the same kind of parasite we now have in our heads. We probably don't have much time before we will be changed to those monsters as well...
Mind flayers ship(that seemed to be alive) tried to escape from dragons attack by teleporting between different planes/ dimensions(?). But the ship was too damaged by dragons attack so it had to land/ crash in one of those worlds. We found Shadowheart again. She said that Lae'zel has left us and went her own way. Shadowheart seemed really thankful to us for saving her life. It seems that Griffith's plan to save her and in doing so gain a useful pawn worked well.
After that we met another new companion- an elf named Astarion. It seems that our party will be made mostly by elfs and half-elfs...Interesting At first he tried to trick us by asking us to kill something that was hiding in a brush. Once we tried looking what it is(it was just a wild animal) Astarion sneaked on us and pointed a blade to our neck. We headbutted him and freed ourselves. After a short conversation we found out that Astarion could be another useful pawn. Besides he and Griffith seem to be a kindred spirits. He may even make a good friend...if we would trust him at all. The problem is that Griffith is not a person who is trusting others and is looking for his own kingdom to rule and not something as foolish as friendship.
So far I am loving this game's story, companions and visuals. But controls and gameplay seem quite complex. I may even say that so far I preferred how those things worked in Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2.
In the future we need to remove parasites from our heads. As soon as possible or else we will turn into mind flayers. Another thing we need is to find another companion for our party. I suppose at worst case we could find and use Lae'zel again. But she seems harder to control than Shadowheart. And we are looking for pawns who would help us conquer a kingdom. Not somebody who may try to play us instead. Also Ideally I would like the last party member to be a mage. I hope that we will find one soon because so far our party is lacking a spellcaster...
