Hace más de 2 décadas ninguna persona se imaginaba que la industria de los videojuegos se convertiría en multimillonaria, tanto los desarrolladores como los jugadores y creadores de contenido ganan cantidades absurdas de dinero si hacemos una suma generalizada, esto da a entender que existen muchas formas de ganar dinero con los videojuegos, bien sea de forma profesional (e-Sport, programando) o informal, en esta última destaca un método que llama la atención de muchas personas, llamado gold farming.

More than 2 decades ago no one imagined that the video game industry would become multimillionaire, both developers and players and content creators earn absurd amounts of money if we make a generalized sum, this suggests that there are many ways to make money with video games, either professionally (e-Sport, programming) or informal, in the latter highlights a method that attracts the attention of many people, called gold farming.

Gold Farming es una de las tácticas más usadas por miles de jugadores para generar ingresos a través de un videojuego, se trata de obtener grandes cantidades de monedas con la finalidad de venderlas por dinero real en el mercado, con la finalidad de que otros usuarios puedan usar este oro o moneda para poder comprar lo que deseen dentro del juego, en resumen, existen personas dispuestas a pagar por dinero virtual.

Gold Farming is one of the most used tactics by thousands of players to generate income through a video game, it is about obtaining large amounts of coins in order to sell them for real money in the market, so that other users can use this gold or currency to buy what they want in the game, in short, there are people willing to pay for virtual money.

Existen muchos juegos donde aplican el gold farming, uno de los más conocidos es Runescape, donde su moneda la intercambian por dinero real o criptomonedas, sin embargo, dicha técnica es muy mal vista por la comunidad de dicho videojuego, por lo que persiguen a estos gamers dentro de sus mundos con la finalidad de hacerles la vida imposible e inclusive llegando al punto de suspenderles las cuentas, ya que esta actividad va en contra de las políticas del juego.

There are many games where gold farming is applied, one of the best known is Runescape, where their currency is exchanged for real money or cryptocurrencies, however, this technique is frowned upon by the community of this video game, so they pursue these gamers within their worlds in order to make their lives impossible and even to the point of suspending their accounts, since this activity is against the policies of the game.

Otros juegos como World of Warcraft también existe el Gold Farming, pero aquí lo realizan de una manera peculiar, dentro del juego se puede adquirir una moneda especial que permite al jugador expandir su tiempo de juego (ya que WoW es un MMORPG pago), los gamers más avanzados reúnen grandes cantidades de oro con la finalidad de comprar dicha moneda, para ofrecerla en portales como eBay a un precio menor a la mensualidad que ofrece Blizzard, esto también es penalizado, por lo que las cuentas que hacen esta actividad están en riesgo de ser suspendidas.

Other games such as World of Warcraft also have Gold Farming, but here it is done in a peculiar way, within the game you can purchase a special currency that allows the player to expand their game time (since WoW is a paid MMORPG), the most advanced gamers collect large amounts of gold in order to buy this currency, to offer it on portals like eBay at a lower price than the monthly fee offered by Blizzard, this is also penalized, so the accounts that do this activity are at risk of being suspended.

Existen otros juegos donde la moneda principal que se maneja internamente tiene un valor en el mercado, permitiendo a los jugadores de una forma legal poder intercambiarla por dinero real, entre ellos podemos encontrar a Entropia Universe y su moneda Project Entropia Dollars (PED), que tiene un valor de 1 dólar por cada 9.5 PED. Esta moneda se puede encontrar de forma gratuita dentro del juego, sin embargo, no es una tarea fácil, ya que todo dentro de Entropia Universe se manejan con PED, por lo que reunir grandes cantidades se necesita ser un jugador avanzado con experiencia, es decir, es una inversión de tiempo a largo plazo.

There are other games where the main currency that is handled internally has a value in the market, allowing players to legally exchange it for real money, among them we can find Entropia Universe and its currency Project Entropia Dollars (PED), which has a value of 1 dollar for every 9.5 PED. This currency can be found for free within the game, however, it is not an easy task, since everything within Entropia Universe is managed with PEDs, so collecting large amounts requires being an advanced player with experience, that is, it is a long-term investment of time.

Con el videojuego anterior podemos ver que ciertamente existen videojuegos que su moneda es cotizada en el mundo real, llegando a venderse con facilidad y de forma legal, pero siempre existirán otros títulos en los que esto es mal visto o directamente no está permitido. A pesar de las indiferencias que existen por el gold farming hay muchas personas que actualmente están manteniéndose con esta actividad en países con una alta tasa de devaluación, tanto que la moneda del juego tiene más valor que su moneda nacional.

With the previous video game we can see that there are certainly video games whose currency is quoted in the real world, being sold easily and legally, but there will always be other titles in which this is frowned upon or is not allowed. Despite the indifferences that exist for gold farming there are many people who are currently supporting themselves with this activity in countries with a high rate of devaluation, so much so that the currency of the game has more value than their national currency.
