Only the chosen by the Star will be granted ancestral power to vanquish the scourge. Being Noctis Lucis Caelum the rightful heir to the throne of Lucis, he was early chosen to fulfill a prophecy against the darkness trying to consume the world. For this challenging task he receives power from the Star crystal, and with that, many skills are manifested.
One of these great powers is the connection with ancient relic weapons called Royal Arms (phantom weapons in Japanese) that were wielded by past Lucis great kings. Before Noctis, there has been 113 kings, but only 13 royal arms still duel in the world of Eos.
As explained by Cor The Immortal, one of the future King tasks is to grow in power by collecting these great weapons. Some of them are part of the story, but others must be found around the world in challenging dungeons.
Each weapon is quite exquisite in design, they grant great particular abilities, and all take the cost of Noctis life when used (Noctis Health Points). Giving soul to weapons by telling a story about them and connecting their use with the story is something I look for in video games.
Royal Arms
Weapons once wielded by the Lucian rulers of yore, each possessing supernatural powers capable of suppressing even the deadliest of daemons. The arms now lie in tombs around Eos, resting alongside their former owners.
Sword of the Wise
A king built a mighty wall and protected the realm. This was his sword. It devastates foes with preemptive warp-strikes.
This first phantom weapon is acquired by following the story in chapter 2. It has low stat buffs to be honest, but it is a great way to learn the dynamics of these weapons.
Axe of the Conqueror
A king performed great feats of arms, expanded his realm, and made his people prosper. This was his halberd. It wreaks havoc with slow but mighty blows
This is the first smashing weapon of the set. It is slow, but deadly. The warping attack is quite unique too that aims to strike enemies from above to brake their defense. Beware of its negative defense cost though.
Bow of the Clever
A king was versed in myriad arts both martial and intellectual. This was his crossbow. The bearer skewers foes while flitting around the battlefield.
This is actually a crossbow, and it works great for distance fighting. The shots are quite fast, and the arrow damage is based on magic stat. It saved me quite some times when I needed to keep distance of certain foes.
Swords of the Wanderer
A king was quick like the wind and went where no man had gone before. These were his blades. Apart they rain fury-together they delivered thundering blows.
Even though in the image it looks like a bow, those are twin swords. Noctis style with these babies is like playing with daggers in a fast combo that can be fused to give heavier blows. They increase Noct's health and spirit.
Blade of the Mystic
A king rose to protect the world with the Oracle. This was his sword. When swung, it enhances the wielders prowess.
This is one of my favorites! It is powerful, classy and extra damaging on warp strikes. It increases Noctis overall life. It is obtained during the main story when looking for the Archaean.
Star of the Rogue
A queen spurned the public eye and took to the shadows. This was her shuriken. From near and far, it traces deadly arcs to the left and right.
This weapon is a showcase in mid air, kind of Yuffie Ninja style from FFVII. It's just fun to attack with it and all that fast combos. It offers good elemental resistance buffs too.
Sword of the Tall
A king was built like a mountain, towering over all others. This was his greatsword. The resonating blade rips and tears through foes.
This might be the hardest weapon to obtain in the entire game. It is located on the difficult dungeon of Costlemark Tower. The sword lies deep down guarded by fearsome Daemons. Since I like challenges, I obtained this baby towards midgame, but most people save it for last chapters. Why is it so worthy? it is just a weapon of mass destruction. It really increases strength while taking resistances from you. The weapon also has some "teeth" on its edges that grind the enemy apart.
Shield of the Just
A queen devoted herself to peace and was loved by all. This was her shield. It deflects blows and bolsters recovery when raised in defense.
Compared to the previous one, it is one of the easiest weapons to obtain. It increases all resistance stats while taking some strength. Although it is a defensive phantom weapon, it's good to use it in the air to scatter enemies and affect wide areas after impact.
Mace of the Fierce
A king was gentle before his people but an ogre on the battlefield. This was his mace. It deals crippling blows to mighty foes.
The slowest but most crashing weapon of the set. It can be obtained in the Ravatogh Volcano. Its main use is for breaking enemy parts. Seriously, if you want the horns and the claws, use this baby to crush.
Scepter of the Pious
A king ruled the realm according to divine law and worked hand in hand with the Oracle. This was his staff. It smites foes with a blade of light.
This one was a little disappointing. I thought it would be a magic staff and such were going to be its attacks, but on the contrary, this weapon imitates others from the phantom set on its combo. It can be called a multi-weapon. The good thing is that it increases magic stat greatly.
Trident of the Oracle
A strong and noble woman was loved by the world. She granded succor to the stars and brought man and god together. This was the trident of her line. It makes allies of the wielder's holograms.
This trident is a royal weapon, yet it can be carried by the oracle. It was used to summon the Gods to join the promised king to help him fulfill the prophesy. As a trident it does a great falling-from-high warp strike like the best dragoon style. It also creates mirror attacks during the combo while having short strength buff on hit. One of the best for sure.
Katana of the Warrior
A king was changed forever when his beloved queen was taken from him prematurely. This was his katana. It is drawn and strikes in a single heartbeat.
This is a great combo weapon. It is obtained with the story during chapter 10. it has good strength, fast cuts, long warp slashes; it kind of has it all. Well, it has almost everything. It does increase several stats, but it's weak against daemons sadly. Nonetheless, a favorite as well.
Sword of the Father
A king was father to the Chosen One, and nurtured the light that would shine upon all creations. This was his mighty sword. It makes the great greater.
The last weapon of the set is obtained at later chapters in the game. It is one of the greatest for its strength buffs, great combos, solid warp strikes, and the emotional connection that represents.
You made it here? man, this quarantine has you bored, hasn't it?
Thanks for reading my post. It is one of the features I actually like from this weird FF experiment this tittle was. If you ever get to play, tell me which weapons are your favorites.
