Call of Duty MW3 (2023) has released with a lot of hate. And that is for good reason because the game just sucks. But as always when a game does suck and get’s bad reviews there are some people out there that claim it’s because of review bombing, and this time it isn’t Kotaku, or The Gamer, but it is Game Rants making this claim.
I knew COD MW3 was going to suck when I went into it, at least from the stuff I had heard. So I was debating on whether I really wanted to buy it. But I figured that I never bought a new game for quite a bit, so said what the hell and broke out my visa card for it. And it was really disappointing.
Game Rants posted an article about a week ago about the game claiming that it was being review bombed. One thing I found about a lot of these gaming sites is that they often misuse the word review bomb on purpose or by mistake. When we can talk about some of the ones on purpose we can look at the claims that the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West was being review bombed by homophobes or even that RE4R was being reviewed bombed by racists and sexists.
A true review bombing is people leaving low review scores because of their personal or political belief and the only thing the game does wrong is go against it. Usually these reviews are not thought out and consist of only a few lines. However when a review is actually thought out and it gives a game a low review score than that isn’t a review bomb.
And that is the case with MW3. MW3 currently sits at a 1.7 over on metacritic, and most of the reviews are complaining about 3 things, things that are very valid to complain about. The story, SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking), and how the game feels like it should have been a DLC.
Even Game Rants acknoweldeges these reviews in their article, yet they still claim the game is being review bombed. But that isn’t the case. I played the game, and can honestly say the complaints people have about this game are 100% founded.
For the SBMM, it can be a good thing, as long as it’s not broken. Which is broken in MW3. SBMM takes account your K/D ratio before placing you in a match. So if you did really well in a previous match chances are you’ll be placed with pros in the next one.
However this post isn’t meant to be a review but just to touch on this topic a bit! I dive further in it in the video below!
