I'm a walking contradiction. I absolutely love the Xbox, but if there's one thing I can't give up on is trying out new tech and so out of nowhere I had the hunch to purchase a PS4.
Sure, the PS5 is out but with how limited stocks are I'm willing to bet this little black rectangle will be getting some more support, hence my purchase. It wasn't too expensive, but it was more expensive than it should've been.
The PS4's value has gone up like fine wine, a couple of years ago it used to be cheaper than this, but alas, demand went up and I understand why now: It's a wonderful piece of kit.
As for controllers, mine came with this off-brand skull one that works perfectly fine and feels great in the hand, and my friend borrowed his older one since his PS4 offed itself. Now I've got some 2 player action on Nidhogg available and that's just great.
One thing I immediately fell in love with was the design here, it's wonderful. Honestly, it's one of the best designed consoles I've ever seen and it looks great on just about any shelf I put it on. Sony did a great job and it's something I expected already to be honest.
Whilst Microsoft's consoles tend to be more utilitarian looking, Sony goes for the clean angles, the curves, the look of the future and I love that.
You can clearly see their design evolution even back in the 90's

Where as the PS1 fat had a very modern design for the 90's, the PSone (Slim model) had that very 2000s CD player look. That was in fact my first non-Nintendo console and I remeber thinking it looked so modern, futuristic and also a little cute.
One advantage of this angular rectangle shape is that unlike the bulky fat Xbox One, it doesn't block the lower quarter of your TV if you're short on space... This is kind of important for me as I am short on space on the living room.
It still doesn't beat the Series S but at least it doesn't get in the way as well. It's tidy and nice.
Now as for games mine came with the The Last of Us: Remastered.
I was not expecting much but... wow. Just from the beginning, this is wonderful. The game looks beautiful and the story has already captivated me enough.
I LOVE it.
I'm playing the game entirely in Portuguese, and the dub is surprisingly good, in fact, I left my system in Portuguese as Sony does such a good job translating their games.
I don't need translations, but when it's well done, I like it, same as movies and it's the reason why I watch Dragon Ball Z or Pokémon in Portuguese (my hispanic friends can problably relate with the Spanish dub too).
The menu looks as wonderful as the system itself, even if I did find it a bit confusing for a first time user.
I liked all the shortcuts on top such as friends, notifications and settings but I didn't like much how all the recent apps are shown and how the game library is a little "tucked away."
How did I get all these games so fast anyway? Well my friend. Sony is now trying to compete with Gamepass, so I did the logical thing and signed up for 3 months for PS Plus Deluxe.
The game selection is nowhere near as good as Gamepass (which I'm still using on PC and playing Persona 5 now ironically enough).
But it does have some nice games. The Ubisoft catalog is a little small, but there are some great Assassin's Creed games in there.
Also,
Le cute cat game (it's actually really good.)
I was very disappointed with the selection of classic games on offer so I hope more are added. There are some great games so far, but Sony needs more if it wants to compete.
They have such a huge backlog of PS1, PS2 and PSP games to use but they just aren't using them so far. As of right now, Deluxe is a huge missed opportunity.
Sure, I'm enjoying Gravity Rush Remastered, Wild Arms and my dearest Mr. Driller, but come on, Tekken 2? Not even 3?
Just... wow.
Despite that however, I'm really enjoying the system and I think Sony did a great job here, it's very interesting to see what I missed out on the (almost) past decade by playing on Xbox, Nintendo and PC.
I'll definitely enjoy my 3 months of PS Plus and if by then I find it worthwhile to keep the console, then I'll do it, if not, then I might just get a new GPU or something else.
Anyway, those are the mad ramblings of an Xbox fanboy falling in love with the Playstation, thanks for reading <3
