Hello from a cold winter evening, I'm here with the third chapter of Frostpunk. As you know, in this scenario I named some characters after people from our community. I have to say that this is the hardest scenario I've ever played. But thanks to your support, I'm more eager to complete it successfully. I'm reading all the comments and I'm grateful to all of you for them. Without further ado, let's continue where we left off. You can read the previous chapter by clicking here.
As usual, I will leave a short summary of the previous chapter here for who don't want to read previous chapter. People have died one after another and our hope has dropped to almost zero. People gave me one last chance and asked me to raise the hope to 15% in two days. It was very difficult, but I did it. Just as the hope was rising, we ran out of coal and I couldn't keep my promise to heat people's homes, so the hope dropped to zero again. We managed to remove 30 pieces of wreckage and so we successfully completed two of the 4 main tasks.
In the comments of the first episode, asked me to add him to the game. I already saved the first two episodes and here he is in episode 3. Good luck man! I promise to do my best to keep you alive too.
Let's take a look at the situation at the beginning of the episode. Our coal production is almost the same as our consumption and it's not enough. We need more coal for emergencies, when people can't work. I need to remove the wreckage that prevents me from building coal mines and build coal mines there.
I produce 180 firewood a day and that is really low. I need to make it at least 250 so that I can continue researching and build the things I need to build.
117 steel production is also really low. Because like wood, I use steel for both research and construction. I don't have a lot of resources other than wreckage. I hope I will not have a problem in this aspect.
Here is another problem. I can produce 540 food rations a day and I spend 552. I definitely need to increase this, at least to 750-800 so that I can stock up on food. At the end of the scenario, there will be a storm and then we must have food.
We don't seem to have any health problems. The hospice is really helping a lot with that. I'm going to build another hospice and other amputees will be better taken care of there. Also in the health centers they will not prevent people from getting treatment.
I have also solved the heat problem, but as I mentioned, people live in very scattered places and I have to gather them close to the generator. Otherwise I will have to build steam centers for them and that is a big cost of coal. Another problem is that many people are still living in tents. We need to build sheds or houses for them, so that when it gets 10 degrees colder they don't start feeling cold.
In this episode I passed a law to make people eat soup for all meals. I wouldn't want that either, but it allows us to make 5 food portions out of 2 raw foods instead of 4. We will continue like this for a while to survive. If things go well, we can go back to the old system.
Here's the good news. The amputees came to see me. They say they can help us in the mess hall if they have simple wooden prostheses. For 100 firewood, the efficiency of the mess hall will increase by 40%. So basically we will produce 7 food portions from 2 raw foods, which is great!
People are complaining again about the cold and want the houses to be heated. Last time we had to deal with a lot of problems, but this time it will be easier. Okay man, I'm going to heat some houses and that will give us hope.
Four cowardly bandits came out from under the rubble. People wanted us to send them away because they were serving the previous leader. Normally I wouldn't send them away, but I don't want to do anything to increase unrest.
Four engineers came out from under one of the rubble. They were arrested for trying to turn on the generator when the previous leader was in charge. What a murder! I'm very happy to see these engineers because I need a lot of them right now.
In the midst of this development of the city, I completely forgot about the task of raising hope to 50%. Fortunately it wasn't too low, but I needed a final push. Building this temple will increase hope and allow me to get an ability that increases hope and reduces unrest. Simply perfect!
Yes! When I built it, hope rose even more than I expected. I must admit, it was a glorious one, and we deserved the boost. I just need a little more help. I hope to be able to handle them with the abilities in the temple.
I have done it! I have succeeded in raising hope and people trust me now. They have realized that I am the only one who can lead them through these difficult times and they will follow me at all costs. Now we have to solve the generator problem.
What is it? Generator problems? You can't have forgotten that. I said in the first episode that the generator was fixed in a hurry, but then it needed a major repair. That day has come. We'll search the repair station. We're going to build the repair station and we're going to put someone in charge of it. And finally, we will investigate the cause of the generator's failure.
There's a creaking noise coming from the generator. The problem seems to be getting worse. People are afraid the generator might explode. Wait, could that be true? I mean, could the generator explode? That's terrible.
Here we go. Here we go. I've built the repair station, but the problem is I need 60 engineers. The problem is that I have 63 engineers in total. If I stop all research and medical activities in the city, I can only keep 60 engineers working here, which I can't do. I need engineers. Fortunately there are not so many sick people at the moment and I can shift some engineers from the health center here. I have assigned a total of 23 engineers here.
Our engineers have finished their research and the generator has a serious problem. We can keep it going for a while with a repair station, but eventually it will melt down and the voltage will increase and it will explode. This is the end of the Winterfell...
Our engineers say there is still hope and if we repair our dreadnought we can use it to migrate out of Winterfell. But the problem is, where? I could lie and say I know of another city, and that would greatly increase hope. Or I can tell them the truth, I don't know where to go, but we have to take our chances. In return, work productivity will drop by 10%. 10% is not a serious number and I don't want to lie to people about it. I don't know where to go but we should try.
We need to set up an evacuation center as soon as possible and get out of here. First we will send engineers to fix the dreadnought and then we will evacuate as many people as possible. I should send steel, food and steam cores with them. But where am I going to get it? I only have one at the moment and I hope I won't need more.
I have built the evacuation center and I am ready to send people and engineers there. They can then develop the dreadnought with the resources we send. This was absolutely unexpected. Not at all! We need to emigrate somewhere else and we need to do it quickly. At the same time we need to keep producing to survive for now. Everything is very difficult.
So that's the end of another chapter, and in the next chapter we will try to evacuate people. Before I forget. I checked our heroes at the end of the episode and you guys are all alive. I don't want to tag you every episode, I hope you read this. Thank you very much for joining me. See you in the next episode. Have a great day and watch out for the cold!
