From the game's launch up to Sumeru we had a very consistent story and decent enough combat and cinematics. From the Fontaine that followed and up to the present we have had a horrible story that really just doesn't make sense half the time (and that's being generous) but the combat has gotten exciting and the cinematics are just the best examples of 3D anime style that the world has ever seen. miHoYo is to 3D anime what Square Enix is to realistic looking graphics.
I really like that we're getting some QTEs now as well which has already become a tradition in other forms of gaming. Square Enix was among the earliest adopters too so there's more to this connection. I also like the integration between in-game and cinematic pieces of the fight. And even just the attacks look impressive. When the three Ancient Moon Remnants fell and then Dottore launches a massive death ray at the whole arena, it looks like it should be part of a cinematic and yet you have active control. It's also nice that the fight itself (this is from when you do the Weekly Boss) doesn't have some silly gimmicks that either force you to use specific characters or attacks. There aren't even second phases or intermediate phases so you're always in the middle of the fight until it ends. Very impressive design.
