In the current version we were given buffs to some of the oldest characters of the game. These are characters that are no longer used because their abilities are no longer useful. (except for Mona and Fischl) So you'd think that if you're going to do that, you'd just do it and be done with it right?
But these devs decided that they'd impose conditions on these buffs. First you have to own the character already which isn't a big ask. What would you do with a buff to a character you don't even have? Except that to get these buffs you do a story which means now there are story elements of this game that are locked behind the gacha paywall. Don't have the character? Don't even play through the lore then. This is made worse when you know that these are super old characters so the company hasn't even made them available to gacha for in years. Second even if you do have the character, you have to level them up to at least Lv.70. Again some of these characters are useless. Razor for example won't even be much better after getting the buffs. So I for one hadn't even bothered to level him up since I wasn't planning to use him even back when I got him. But again, don't level him up, don't play the story either.
It's bad enough that I haven't found a single person who puts up story quest videos that has a completed version of this. I myself stitched a bunch of people's videos together in order to get this video out. It's another p2w favored move by the company and funny enough, p2w players aren't story players. I'm sure I know a dozen or so who have a complete set of these characters, leveled them all up to Lvl.90 just for the heck of it and yet they don't play through the story. They skip it. They complain that they can't just ignore them wholesale. This move is essentially an incentive to spend but you couldn't even if you were convinced to do so and the ones who had already spent aren't even rewarded because the payoff is something they skip anyway. Business savvy these folks are not.
But anyway I tried to organize this video in the most narratively pleasing way so enjoy!
