Dying Light completely blew me away back then.
Even though I only discovered it in 2018 (better late than never, right?), it was the game of the year for me. I finished it in just one week — my daily routine was simple: sleep, work, play, repeat.
The story is pretty average, but the game more than makes up for it with its incredible parkour, visceral melee combat, and an incredibly immersive post-apocalyptic world that carries the whole experience on its own.
On top of that, there are some really well-crafted side quests that still stick with me today — especially the one with Gazi, the tragicomic alcoholics, or the two crazy tinkerer brothers.
Last year, I actually wanted to stream the game because I was craving it again.
Since it’s still indexed in Germany, though, I just played through it offline once more.
And you know what? It has aged incredibly well.
The atmosphere, the movement, and the pure gameplay feel just as fresh and gripping as they did years ago.
I pre-ordered Dying Light 2 on day one.
Apart from one annoying glitch during the final boss, I was luckily spared most of the major bug issues that many others complained about.
The game was solid and enjoyable — but it never quite hooked me the way the first part did.
Now I’m really looking forward to Dying Light: The Beast.
It’s supposed to go back much closer to the spirit of the original, and that’s exactly what I’ve been hoping for.
I’ll definitely pick it up this year and see if it can pull me in as hard as Dying Light once did.
