A few days ago, I started a game of Coromon — a brand new monster catcher and battler that so far seems pretty good!
I haven't played as much as I would like of it yet, due to trying to write a novel-in-a-month and most of my downtime being spent on Destiny 2 instead, but I had time to try out a bit more of it last night and I thought that I'd share my progress! 😊
When I closed the game last, I was working on levelling up my six Coromon. I wanted them all to be level 8 before I continued on to Hayville, the little country town my main quest was guiding me towards.
I only managed to level three of them to 8 that day, so I decided that I'd continue my personal goal and level up the other three
The very first Coromon I came across was of 'potent' quality. There are three qualities in the game: standard, potent, and perfect, and all three of them have different colours and different potency strengths. A potency strength of 21 is 'perfect.' I haven't gotten the tool yet that tells me the potency of my Coromon, but Potent is better than Standard so I quickly caught this thing.
That blue one is my Potent one, facing off against a black Standard one.
I decided to put my own Standard one in the Coromon storage and work on this new Potent one instead. It didn't take very long to get it up to level 8 with the rest of its new comrades. xD
Soon everyone was level 8 and it was time to move forward!
We were on our way to Hayville because there was some idiot savant there who understood technology better than the professors and researchers at Lux Solis Headquarters, and he was the one who would install the Titan Essence Gatherer module into my gauntlet. Makes sense.
On my journey, I came across another Battle Researcher who wanted some help with her milestones. Obviously she challenged me to a battle.
She only had two Coromon, both of which were level 5. Paltry compared to my six level 8 beasties.
I very quickly defeated her and my new Potent Silquil levelled up to 9, and got itself a very handy ability. My thievin' raven will be of much use later on. Much.
With the n00b's defeat swiftly taken care of, Kaelci the Best Battle Researcher continued on her quest to Hayville. Just outside the town's rustic fence was a kid willing to trade me his cool looking wasp thing for a Mino.
I had a Mino of my own, but wasn't going to give that up, so I went out to catch another one just to give to this guy.
Kaelci the Best Battle Researcher ran around some hay for a bit, made funnies at the nearby scarecrow, and at last caught a Mino and traded it for Buzzy.
At last setting foot in Hayville, I rescued the idiot savant from another wasp looking thing and he soon got to work on my gauntlet. He gave me a spare one in the meantime while he hammered away at mine.
While waiting for him to finish hammering my gauntlet, I rummaged through the townsfolks' houses and stole various cakes, perfumes, and spinners. They'd never miss 'em.
Then this nerd decided to challenge me to a Battle of Wits!
After besting him, and besting him hard, I won his book hat. Then I was nice and helped a lady find a beginner's book for battling Coromon so one day she could be as awesome as me.
Score!
He also awarded me with something called a 'Lazy Gem' which is something one of your Coromon can hold so they, too, can get XP when other Coromon fight.
At last it was time to return to the idiot savant and retrieve my hammered gauntlet.
He hadn't broken it, at least, and in fact had added another upgrade to it! With the strength of a blacksmith, I could now push things out of my path!
With the power a mere mortal should not have, I went outside and experiment with this new PUSH module and pushed all the things! Making way for a couple of chests I couldn't reach without it.
After pushing a bunch of stuff around, I waltzed back into the centre of town only to be accosted by the Coromon Health Centre lady. Apparently some thoughtless researcher had left a bunch of Swurmys under her care and never bothered to return for them. During their absence, the Swurmys evolved into the wasp looking things and have been terrorising the town.
Ohnoes!
I'd better save the town!
There were six of them hidden all over the town. One of them was harrassing a poor lady in her bedroom!
But at last all the Beezels were bested and the town was safe from their poisonous swarms.
Now that the town was safe, I had one more quest to complete. There was a professor building a teleport device but was missing parts! And the delivery man hadn't arrived yet!
So, Brave Kaelci set forth to look for this missing delivery.
I soon found the Delivery Man stuck in the park. He had made the fatal error of not carrying enough healing cakes for his Coromon and was unable to travel safely through the long grass where Coromon hide, ready to pounce.
Brave, Kind Kaelci offered to take the delivery for him. Because she was brave and kind and not a thief.
With the parts he had ordered clenched firm in hand, the professor tinkered away at the teleporter and activated it, allowing the Brave and Kind Kaelci first dibs on using the wonderful machine.
And now, at last, we can see a bit of the map we shall be travelling on.
I can only travel between Lux Solis Headquarters and Hayville for now, but more transporters shall be unlocked in due time.
When you choose areas too, you can see what Coromon you have discovered there and if there are any missing. I was surprised to discover that I am missing three whole species in Radiant Park. I was literally there, for a couple of hours, levelling up my Coromon, and I've missed three whole species.
I'm gonna have to go back there at some point, obviously, and be a completionist.
And now... with that Teleporter finished... my current time in Hayville was complete.
My Coromon were all leveled to 10, except Buzzy the Buzzkill who had reached a nifty 11, and it was time to continue on the grand quest of capturing Titan Essence to prove myself to the Titan Taskforce, after all, my gauntlet had been modified to do so now.
I've logged 4 hours and 15 minutes at this point.
Now I'm up to a little forest area, and will catch a few new Coromon here and work out a decent team. Then get them all to level 14 ~ I think that sounds like a good level ~ before continuing onward! 😃
Until next time!! 😊🦄
