In my last Starbound post, Autumnia finished building her base! For the time being, anyway. Now it was off to increase her armour and weapon level so she could get back on track with questing and saving the galaxy!
Before leaving on this adventure, Autumnia created a bunch of fossil-brushes at the new crafting station that had been built so we could get started on acquiring specimens for the future museum. 😁
My next armour upgrade is made using Durasteel which I can find on slightly more dangerous planets than I've been on previously. 😬 This particular planet I found was also flooded with radiation so I needed to quickly zoom back to my base and upgrade my personal protection equipment.
I didn't get a screenshot of the evil beast, but the first creature that attacked me decimated my health to half.
I was going to have to be very, very careful!!
As I was mining along underground and following pre-formed caverns, I found a prison on the surface filled with rioting prisoners with guns.
Considering my squishiness at the moment, I didn't dare break through the floor and surprise them. Not yet, anyway. I had Durasteel to find and dig up and work with first.
It wasn't long until I found my first durasteel ore! I had a feeling I was going to need tonnes of it though. I need to make my armour, and the crafting tables I haven't upgraded yet haven't been because they required Durasteel... and there was probably going to be a few crafting recipes unlocked too once I figured it all out.
So, I continued on my trek to gather tonnes of durasteel!
While I was down in the depths looking for durasteel ore, I found a fossil and decided to give my new archaeological brushes a whirl. I dusted away all the dirt, then chipped away at some stone, and then, when I thought I had gotten a treasure chest, the excavation incomplete window popped up and all I got was some worthless bones.
Maybe I should research minigames before attempting them. xD I have no idea what I did wrong.
Turns out the issue was that I focused on the chest instead of the bones. Which makes sense. I'm digging up fossils, after all. The treasure chest is just an added bonus.
I might have gone overboard with the fossils and soon I had run out of sustenance and needed to return to base to get more food and more fossil brushes and come back down to excavate more fossils... and durasteel... ore... of course.
When I returned to the planet, I managed to ignore my urge to go get more fossils and instead I braved entering the prison.
Turns out it wasn't so bad after all! Most of the prisoners had melee weapons, not guns, and my rifle took care of them. Muahaha.
By some luck I found two diamond pickaxes in the prison! A strange thing to have stored in prison lockers, but it is what it is. I'll take them! I also got quite a lot of upgraded bandages and things from the prisoners once killed. That's great. My tier 1 first aid salves aren't quite doing the trick anymore.
After killing everyone in the prison and looting all that remained, I continued forth and found a frog village. I stole their fairy lights. Turns out the frogs do indeed get offended by theft just as a normal village is. Woops.
And so, I stole the rest of their fairy lights xD secretly this time. Muahaha.
In the middle of the swamp was a chest. Inside that chest was a disgusting swamp monster mask. I decide that it's a keeper XD and prepare to chuck it in my home upon my return.
Unable to restrain myself any longer, I return to the underground depths and find another fossil to excavate. This time I got part of a t-rex! 😱😮 I need to find more parts of a t-rex! That will be the centrepiece of my future museum.
I didn't end up finding any more T-rex pieces, but I did find a bunch of durasteel. Happy with my ore collection, I decided it was time to at last make my armour when I came across a merchant being hassled by cultists.
Once I dispatched them, the merchant offered me a quest. A quest to kill a bandit leader who had robbed a bank somewhere.
Perhaps he had millions of treasures upon him! Naturally Autumnia zoomed off to take care of this bandit.
I found the bandit just where the merchant said he was — in a tall building to the west! Under the protection of a Fennec fox. I whipped open the door and started stabbing him with my spear! Then he shot me and removed half my health in one hit. 😱😱😱
Hastily, I ran outside and bandaged up and we had a ranged firefight!
Until he surrendered. He asked me to put my weapon away, he was surrendering. I wasn't sure if I should trust him. But I did, preparing to whip out the weapon again at a moment's notice.
Out of no where he pleaded with me, told me that he was a good person, and to please let me allow him onboard my ship. He'd work for me!
"Sure, why the hell not?" Autumnia thought to herself and accepted his plea.
I went back to the merchant and lied to his face. Sure, yes. Of couuuurse I defeated the bandit leader. Grabbed my reward money and zoomed back to my ship. xD
My new friend, Ashton the Bandit, seemed surprised at the sensation of being beamed up to my ship. He'd get used to it.
I headed to my trusty AI and inputted his details into the ship's database. Then giggled to myself at his status. "Tripped over a rock earlier."
I feel you, Ashton. I feel you.
Until next time! 😄
