I finally found the time to make a post about an upcoming crypto game I'm quite hyped about: „CityStates:Medieval“ (CS:M). Its first playable version (closed beta) is supposed to be released next month, and there are still ways to get in! But first, let me introduce you to the basic concepts of CS:M.
Game Mechanics
CS:M is going to be an „empire building MMO“ according to the CS:M website and the official Discord. Gathering ressources, upgrading buildings and fighting your neighbors will probably be the most common tasks. The fighting system seems to be very strategic, as can be seen in the gameplay footage on Youtube. To me it looks like a combination of Travian and Civilizations VI, but it also has some very own ideas including (but not limited to) the blockchain aspect.
Blockchain usage
As with many crypto gaming projects, even before a playable version is released, the token eco system is already quite complex. Lots of different cryptocurrencies can already be deposited (and withdrawn) on the official CS:M website, where they can be exchanged for the ingame-currency HEX and the governance token CSM. There will also be a pack sale very soon including heroes (troops), ressources and crafting material.
HEX will be used to buy ressources etc. from other players directly in the game. It also generates 9% APY that is paid daily. CSM allows you to vote in game development decisions after the initial release of the game, and it also acts as a share of the developing game studio addirktive games. This means, whenever a game developed by addirktive generates profit via pack sales, NFT auctions etc, CSM token holders will get a part of it.
How to get in
You can already create a free account on the CS:M website. However, in order to access the closed beta of CS:M next month or the beta of its upcoming little sister CityStates:Domination (CS:DO), you need a Gold-Pass or Silver-Pass NFT. These can be obtained via auctions, contests or by locking a large amount of CSM tokens.
Conclusion
I'm very optimistic that CS:M will become a successfull crypto game, especially because it doesn't follow the trend of all these boring idle games that seem to pop up everywhere right now. Instead, it promises some interesting and tactic gameplay and clever usage of NFTs. You should know that I only tried to give a brief explanation and that a lot of additional information can be found on the CS:M website, Youtube and Medium. Also check out the official Discord, both devteam and community are very helpful there. Of course you can also ask me some specific questions here, and I might write some more detailed posts later.
