Hi all! This is my review of Crypto Shots, a play-to-earn FPS on Hive! This post is part of a competition the developers are running, and you could win NFTs! See details here.
Level 1 0
I thought it was level 1 until I read the white paper! (More on that later.)
We all have to start at the beginning, right? I'll admit I got tripped up by the shiny boxes that don't do anything (for now). It took me a bit to realize you must conserve ammo and find weapons to finish the level. No ammo refills, so try to make each Crypto Shot count!
Also, I played the F2P option, which lets you experience the game without requiring any NFTs or gaining any of their currency $BOOM. The game played well in my browser, which was nice.
Marketplace
The game originally started with a WAX market, but has been rolling out HIVE integration. For now, all I see available for HIVE are the packs, which come with guns, ammo (important!), and a rare character.
There are more NFTs listed in the WAX marketplace. Gun parts (which let you craft weapons) and tons of other items I can only assume will eventually be available for purchase on the HIVE chain, too.
The Whitepaper
As with any crypto game, it pays to read the whitepaper. Skip down to "DYNAMICS OF THE 3D GAME" section.
Ah, so the first level is just the training grounds! Gotcha.
If you keep reading that section, you'll understand the core loop of the game: weapons and characters allow you to play and earn for a set amount of time per day and appears capped to 115 minutes. Guns give you time, but you'll need ammo NFTs to shoot more things.
After level 0, you'll also need transport to each new level. Everyone has access to a free shuttle that takes longer to get to the next level. Spaceship NFTs allow you to get there faster. You can also offer your spaceship to others who pay fees to use it.
Tokenomics
The BOOM token will allow you to stake for passive income and buy game assets. Read the whitepaper for more details.
Conclusion
Crypto Shots is definitely worth a look. A small investment will let you play the game each day and progress. The shapeship NFT idea and 2 hours between levels originally put me off a bit, but your p2e game time is limited each day anyway. Moving to the next level after your play time is over seems like a good idea. It also depends on how cheap BOOM is. If the travel fees are tiny, then it's a non-issue.
Also, with competitions like the ones happening right now, you can get started with little risk. Win some NFTs and then all your p2e time is a bonus!
They are also going to be rolling out PVP and mobile, so definitely look forward to those. Hope you enjoy the game!
