This is my entry to the Worst Gaming Experience Contest. I could say it was the time twenty some odd years ago. I was playing Halo on the PC and it was 11pm. My wife called me to bed. I replied, “just one more level,honey”. And five hours later I crawled into bed. I do not have to say she was not pleased when we woke up.
I could say it was the time I was playing Rome: Total War. I was playing the Seleucid Empire and was in the middle of fighting on the battlefield since I was outnumbered two to one. My elephants had just gone rogue and were crashing through my units. Before I could save the battle - the hard drive crashed.
But no, the worse gaming experience I’ve had is with InnoGames Grepolis.
It is a free to play game, and supposedly winnable without paying money for upgrades and such. I have been playing it off and on the last two years without spending money on it. And unlike one of its sister games, Tribal Wars 2, it is impossible to win just playing for free.
So a month or so ago, I decided to spend cash on the game. And you know what? Several hundred dollars later, I still couldn’t win. Even if you are in a good and active alliance. Because players who are willing to spend even more money are already too strong once the protection ends. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m just too old to stay up around the clock to fight these wars. Maybe they should have levels of protection until you get big enough points wise to face the big guys. Maybe I’m just complaining for nothing. No one forced me to play the game. It was just cash I could have used to upgrade my setup, or even invested in crypto. Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant.
