Good Day to all you virtual world denizens. The story I am going to tell you now happened...and in a way, did not happen to one of your fellows. It was just the whims of higher powers that were deciding his fate. Same as every other moment of every other day, in fact.
On this particular occasion, the city authorities have been on a frenzy for days. Selling old buildings, buying new ones, collecting taxes and organizing income to buy more, selling and buying, selling and buying, buying, buying, as much as they have been able to.
They intended to make yet another purchase of preconstructed buildings, arriving in mystery boxes, as buildings often arrived in the dCity universe. But...the budget seemed enough for two and...almost a third building.
Almost.
There was a tiny, nigh invisible hole in that budget. So tiny, it could have been filled with...
...the ashes of a burn homeless fellow, somebody speculated.
They had never done such a thing. But it could be done. In theory. And they knew it. And they were tempted to prove it. And the gruesome idea seemed tempting just for the fun it would bring to some twisted souls who saw people as capital only.
And it was not even the most profitable way. It would just be...fast. Ruthless. It would have done the job.
To those who still cared about maximizing profit, the idea of waiting seemed better, but there seemed to be some rush. A buying fever that would have consumed the poor soul. Homeless Timm. For he was, after all, a token, and tokens could be burned for 5 SIM each. Only 3 of those 5 SIM would have been enough to fill the hole in the budget.
Ashes. And a hideous secret.
And the Devil's Laughter...MUAHAHAHahaha...
But then someone remembered there was yet cash to be collected from the tickets from two score and two stadiums that crowned the city. And it was cash enough to fill the hole that the ashes of luck Homeless Timm needed not fill. And he was safe, though unaware of both danger and safety. Safe...for a while longer. Who knows what next Townhall shall bring...
See the blue unhappy face at the top of the mountain? That's Homeless Timm. He has no idea how close he was to burning today.
If there is a lesson there, do not be a homeless dude in a virtual world. Not safe. Play football. Visit your favorite team's matches. Don't jump the fence but pay your tickets. And you might save yet another one.
Yours,
The Mayor
