The Western Shores Board Game Project — Revision IX

Greetings, fellow sentient beings!

Our Western Shores board game project about Vikings exploring the unknown goes on.

Seven out of twenty-nine original watercolor illustrations painted by Hive account@silver.art's have now been funded.

Last time I made a post about this, it was two illustrations funded.

But this is not the main topic today. It's the new experimental rules that I came up with for the upcoming Revision IX.

I told you about the major changes in card design in This Post which is now almost a week old.

Rules have to adapt to that change, don't they?

So, here's an example of something entirely new...

Character cards, including Heroic Character cards, can be sent Scouting instead of discarded at the end of this phase. They will return on your next turn, during the Exploration phase, to give you the effects you would receive for normally playing them. It’s a way to delay their effect so that their it is more...on time, according to your strategy. For example, if you have nothing to do with your two excess Warrior cards during the current turn, you can send them Scouting, effectively placing them out of the game for one turn, and they will return on your next Exploration Phase to provide you with two extra Resolve. Heroic Characters will respectively be discarded for their normal effect when they “return from Scouting”.

Other changes in the rules in Revision IX compared to Revision VIII:

Hand size is now 5 cards instead of 6 cards;

Cards'costs are limited to two resources instead of five but they also have a Runic Symbol requirements;

The Market Zone consists of two piles of different cards only, instead of 6 — the Fishing Boat and the Valkyrie remain;

The Farm and the Smithy cards are now added to the players'starting decks instead of remaining in the Market Zone;

Cards with the Element type can be placed directly into the players' hands after being drafted instead of into their Discard piles, as other cards are.
