Planet Earth has been invaded tens or hundreds of times in movies and games, but one of the most popular of these games is Destroy All Humans, which is back to us after fifteen years with a new look and improved graphics. After a decade and a half, is the destruction of humanity, and specifically the United States of America, still fun?
In case you haven't heard of the game before, Destroy All Humans is a not very serious game that was released in 2005 for the first time and is set in the 1950s in the United States of America. Its story begins when the cloned alien Crypto-136 goes to planet Earth and humans can capture it and study it. For this reason, the cloned leader of the Fioron Empire sends Crpyto-137 to find out what happened to him and to invade planet Earth alone.
As you would expect from the story, there is a lot of banter, events and quests that are not serious, which is why "Destroy All Mankind" is a popular classic - but that was fifteen years ago. The audio performance is very good, but unfortunately it has not been recreated, as it was taken from the original version that was released fifteen years ago, and you will notice its quality clearly at times. The second thing is that the dialogues show her old age from the beginning of the game, where she tries to make you laugh a lot while she is not funny at all.
In its beginnings, you will see how not serious it is, so you may overlook these aspects, as its focus is certainly not on the story, but rather this matter starts to bother you after several hours. In fact, the world and the missions also have grown enormously and become very simple and all the difficulties that Destroy All Humans brings to you can be completed easily due to the simplicity of the tasks and the ease of play style.
In the game "Destroy All Mankind" you will do as the name states and destroy all humanity. In the early hours you will enjoy the fighting style, but it will become very frequent afterwards. As you advance, kill and destroy the planet, the main character will get new weapons and items but they don't really change their gameplay. The tasks also get very repetitive as you have to go to kill or destroy a at a certain time most of the time.
When you lose your hope in it, the game will offer you a new mechanism, which is stealth and stealth, where the alien will be able to transform into a human person and he must complete the tasks without being detected. This mechanism is very similar to the stages of the old Assassin's Creed games where you have to stay with people and you should not do things that Americans from the 1950s would not do. This mechanism was a good change but after a while you don't return it and you will get bored of it.
The combat system is the second best thing in Destroy All Humans as the movement is smooth and fast, and you'll feel good when you kill humans and throw them at each other. There are better weapons than others in terms of feeling, but what distinguishes it is the ability to pilot, fight and do more than one thing at the same time. This is something that was not possible fifteen years ago and this is one of the good aspects of the advanced version.
The biggest improvement that has been focused on is the graphics where we really see a big difference and see the advancement of technologies. The colors are more beautiful and the feeling of destruction has become more enjoyable with the approach of cartoonish realism, and this is something that you can notice from the teaser shows, but the game needs more than just improved graphics.
The big problem with Destroy All Humans is not its poor performance or graphics, but rather it's an old game with improved graphics. The development team did not deviate from the original game and did not change its playing style to preserve what the players loved a decade and a half ago, but in 2020, these mechanisms are no longer excellent or fun as they were before. In a lot of upgraded versions we saw creative additions and new things, but it was a missed opportunity in a game that destroyed all human beings.
So in short, if you are a fan of the original game, you may enjoy the advanced version but you will feel frustrated as the game will not reach your expectations and if you have not played it before, there is really no great reason to buy it and play it.
