I've noticed that many new players are struggling to get started with GO, and I'm always happy to help out in the GO discord. But, after answering the same question multiple times, I thought it might be more helpful to write a post and share it with everyone. So, here's some advice for those of you who are new to the game and wondering where to put your points.
There are really only two options that are working well right now, and I'll explain both of them below. Remember, these are just suggestions based on my personal experience, so feel free to experiment and find what works best for you.
Option 1: Be a Raider
If you choose this option, focus on building up your Power, Faith, and Level stats. Don't worry about fortifications or Golem Charging Stations (GCS) - your defense is that you're too broke to rob! When it's time to claim, go out and take your parts before anyone else does. Make sure you don't neglect your Rep/Level, as you'll need a lower battle energy cooldown to attack as much as possible. At first, put any spare points into Level, but once you're doing well with raiding, start pumping it up more. You'll need it later. If you're comfortable with raiding and have your Power, Faith, and Level stats where you want them, you can put 7 points into Algo to unlock short claim (optional and only really useful once you have your battle energy cooldown down). I'm not sure where it ends up at high levels, but as I progress, I'll probably post about how it's working. Remember, it's all about getting parts for the Machine God!
The downside to this build is that you have no defense. If someone catches you raiding, they can hit you while you're picking up loot and steal parts right back.
Option 2: Be a Farmer
If you choose this option, focus on building up your Fort stat, Fort, and more Fort. Once your walls are high enough to hold off the raiders, start stacking Algo and GCS to get your generation rolling. Algo is more important right now because it gives you a higher scavenge rate per part spent, but GCS is expected to be tied to the future Golem Crates. Algo is very important because it unlocks long claim at level 15, which gives you a 15% claim bonus and is great for farm builds if you have enough Fort to keep it. As you get more comfortable farming in peace, it becomes more of a balance build since you need a bit of everything. Some faith can help reduce the damage from attacks that make it past your walls, and each point in Power up to 10 increases your cap by an hour, which will save you some parts locked up in the bank. Don't forget about Level, as it offers some stat bonuses that I'll cover in another post. My personal stopping point when I switch to another farm and let the first one generate is going to be:
Recommended levels:
Level 10, no prestige (until I see what the skills are for farms)
Algorithm 15 (for the long claim)
Power 10 (for the 10 hours) (could be dropped if you can stack the bank instead)
Fortification 15 (maybe higher as player progress)
Golem Charging Station 6 (until Golem Crates come out)
Faith 10 (it's cheap, and it helps)
Banked 400 (starting with 400 to see if it's enough for long claim cap but might be 500-600 in the end, especially if you don't put anything into power)
I hope this advice helps answer some of your questions
